    Marshals needed for Nationals

    Hey all

As you know we are running nationals at Hampton downs on the 27th and 28th of March. Previously when running races at Puke we needed about 18 marshals...for Hampton we need an absolute minimum of 31 and preferably 52!!

If anyone is about to come out and marshal for us - doesn't need to be both days - you will get close up action of the racing, we will feed and water you and also throw in some petrol vouchers for your travel.

If you can help us out to make this meet awesome flick me a PM.

    Cheers
    PB

Why so many? HD Ride days gets by with 1 person per point and an effective cleanup/pickup team. Surely even running three marshals per post you'd only need 24?

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

So many blind corners from race control.
Race events are totally different from ride days. You have huge potential for high speed crashing at race events, but not so much at ride days.

Can see (and warn) the entire track at HD from 6 marshal points. No blind spots.

I raced there back at the classic meeting in Feb. From a racers perspective - I'd use more marshalls too.
Going into turn 1 the whole corner is blind. Out of turn 2 the turn 3 corner is blind, up the hill into turn 5, the hairpins blind. Imagine a pack of 6 superbikes (or 600's) nose to tail and beside each other, are you going to be able to look across and see each flag point? At HD, you simply need alot more flags and marshalls.

    Just my opinion.

I see what you're saying (and i'm all for the safety perspective), but we've run at least 15 motorcycle events there now with no sight issues (good radio comms between points and course control). Thats what my comments are based on. We've only moved one marshal point (T1) to a better spot.

(FYI - I wasn't at the classic meeting however and dont know what they did about marshal points...)

MNZ have stated that 31 marshalls will be required for the meeting to go ahead. So I guess that's that then.

think the main reason i personaly wouldnt want to marshel is because id be spending my whole day one point of the track for "nothing" realy.......make it worth peoples while......the TRRS gives the marshels $80 a day!!, and guess what they have enough within a few days.

Lets be honest marsheling isnt fun as watching and moving around the track,

    Just an idea. -Max

I would hardly call Petrol Vouchers "Nothing".
Lunch isn't cheap if you have to buy your own either....

As for me, I have to see how my life has panned out in the next two weeks before I can commit to going.....
    Would love to though...

80 bucks each day? That's Seven and a half K to the required # of marshals over the weekend. Add the cost of hiring H/Downs for three days, and then the fact theres 45 bikes entered. Suppose AMCC should just go pick some more off the money tree out the back?

Top attitude Mr Woodyracer I'm picking you load your truck, go to a race meeting, reload and moan all the way home about the way it was run and how much it cost yet will never lift a finger to help.
If a whole days not your style why not volunteer for a half day?

Unfortunately though Spyda, that's what most people do nowadays in any sport. How many meetings have you gone to, and by the end of the 2 days, there is tons of rubbish left in the pits, messes everywhere, and no one bothers to help clean up, they just hop in their vehicles and drive off. I've always wondered why clubs do what they do for the enjoyment of others.

Selfish attitude Max. What do you want to pay for the racing you do? $290 to enter, PLUS $70 for the marshals (that's 31 marshals vs 45 entries; and don't forget the other people running their arses off on the day too - grid staff, office people, scrutinteers, and general helpers), plus the transponder. Nice to have pocketloads of money like you, eh.
I'll prepare a 'special price' entry form since you're so keen to help finance the clubs so they can pay for marshals.
Give something back to the sport occasionally.
Our marshals are like gold and we treat them as good as we can. We'd love to give them what they're worth but we can't afford to.
