alcoholism is a disease apparently, does that make smoking a disease too? how do the two differentiate?

Both are a learned Behaviour, though both Alcohol and Nicotene can be addictive, There is a difference in the mind set of an Ex alcholic and a Non drinker, The ex alcoholic has thoughts about drinking, regardless how long since the last drink, the non drinker never or rearly thinks about drinking, there is the same difference between an ex-smoker and a non-smoker.

Much better idea to get some money for the car, but selling it needs to be a bit more controlled than a 1$ reserve on Trademe...what's to stop their mates buying it back for them etc? Selling to people that pass a background check would have too many issues to make it practical methinks, so maybe wrecking for parts is the best.
Oh, and jail the bastards!

The above quoted post tells the whole "repeat drunk driver" story really!
It is patently obvious that a lot of people who probably consider themselves to be pillars of society, are just not doing their jobs correctly!
Public attention is being focussed on the wrong ingredient of the saga!
Replace these so called "pillars of society" with competent, committed and persistent people, who do the job they are paid for and crushing cars would not even be a topic of discussion.
This article http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/3481...t-drink-driver is an indictment upon our society and it is orchestrated by the do-gooders and otherwise upright incompetents who "allow" this to happen!
Someone must be responsible and accountable, so root them out of their cushy positions and replace them with someone that will do their job properly!![]()
It may be that those connected to the offender end up being able to apply some family responsibility and peer pressure. Always, there are others affected by crimes and drink driving. Victims have families too and they suffer so much and often for years, if not their entire lives.
This country is soft and it is about time offenders and those that should be held accountable for their actions got what they deserved. One guy was in the paper the other day for his 14th conviction..... disqualification does not work for these types. Jail and lost of vehicle is a good way to ensure they do not make victims out of us. Loss of vehicle, well, is it not about time offenders started really feeling the financial pain and inconvenience caused to the victims and their loved ones face every day?
I agree that there are provisions under current law that are not being pursued to the extent possible, but the attitude of the courts does appear to be hardening, albeit too slowly for my liking.
The problem with families, read, partners in many cases, is that they simply do not have any influence over the offender who is usually male and agressive if opposed. As I said, racidivist offenders simply will not stop until they are physically stopped and care nothing for the law or the concerns of their families as evidenced by the number who have their kids in the car with them when they are pulled over.
It's not an easy problem to solve for the partners who still need a vehicle to function, so the only way really is to lock up the offender with forced rehabilitation, dry them out, and of course revoke their licence indefinitely with a further automatic term of imprisonment for each time they are caught behind the wheel. Eventually they may get the message but we are talking about alcoholics here who need to be treated as such as well, not just as driving offenders.

Shorai Powersports batteries are very trick!
They should have to do hard labour for their victims. Go around and waterblast the house, prune the trees, do the lawns for 6 months, and other odd jobs that take some sweat. All supervised or monitored so that it doesn't become a soft option. Jail for 3 time offenders.
And stuffed if I'd be dropping everything and rushing round for a disqualified member of my family! They had better get off their butt and take the bus, walk or get a pushbike... If it's their problem, let it be their consequence! And they better not do that again either, cause there might be some added consequences!
