    Paying for parking?

I do not know how many of you pay for parking inside of a parking building, but I had a reminder of why I do it.

To the poor guy that owns the Suzuki that now has bung bars and throttle, I hope you
get it home alright (Parked at the Bungy parking cnr of Taranaki and Dixon st)

I pay $50 a month (24hr access) to use the parking facilty and do not regret it one bit, with Wellingtons wild wind blowing bikes over and creating a domino effect. So I was wondering...

How many others pay for "Secured" parking for their rides?

Since I started riding to work every day; I have been using the car park that I have rented for $50 p/w (building basement - very secure) - sometimes I think that its a waste of money; and other times (e.g. pissing with rain and blowing its tits off) I'm kind of pleased. I bought my bike new and its in mint condition - sooner or later I will lose the park and I will have to make a decision whether the excellerated depreciation of the bike's value is worth the parking savings

Parking in Auckland City Council carparks is free for bikes.

Or I just park in a corner where all our company cars are parked.

Isnt it free for motorcycles to park in most parking buildings as long as they use designated bike areas or stay out of cars' way?

Yeah my bike basically lives in a Wilsons carpark for free, along with a couple of other bikes. Wilsons don't mind, and the attendants that see me every morning and evening give me a wave.

    I park for free too.

Wellington must really hate bikers. After the whole "clamping down on bike parking" thread a while back, (as if it's an epidemic!) the freakin wind and having to pay for parking?! Sounds like a shit hole, or is that just part of the "interesting" stuff that happens there? (referring to another thread)

Wellington unfortunately is not free parking inside Wilsons or Tournament Parking.

And I think $50 a month is nothing compared to the hassle of having to fix
anything that may break due to wind or idiot drivers cutting it a little too close

What a pile of claptrap .. there are well over 400 parks on the road in wellington provided free, parking in the council carparks for bikes is free ... wilsons have free bike parks in at least one of their buildings ... b ut you are right about interesting stuff down here.

Hey i'm just going off a fellow weirdingtonian! Or is that wellyweird? (Hollyweird)

It's funny the parochailism the savages from the villages.....erm, "towns" about the country that pops up now and then.......

I personally could'nt give a fuck about what people say about Auckland......although I am a mongrel breed and from more than one area, so I have two home towns. (I do'nt actually hate wellington, I just like to take the piss, it is after a great nuisance of a town to pass through to get to the ferry.)

But at least 2 people in this thread are paying $50 per month to park their bikes in Wellington. That doesn't sound too bad, less than $2 per working day. Is that the going rate? How does it compare with the cost for a car?

Sorry if these are silly questions, but I'm just a suburban boy who doesn't know about these things.

Of topic but well happy so had to tell someone.

Just scored free parkin in my work building. Apparantly the building manager is a biker as well and doesn't mind bikes parking there as long as we don't get in the way of the cars.

Result! Now my ride will be safely out of the wind (it's the dominoes/ scooters you have to watch out for) and I'll have a nice dry seat to look forward to.

Very favourable cars min cost out of the way $5 a day ... in mid city $11-12-16 a day and monthly anywhere from $170 to $500 a month.

Car parking costs anywhere from $9 to $16 per day in Welly business district.
