"Four investigations are under way after a 27-year-old man died shortly after police abandoned a pursuit in Hamilton just before four o'clock this afternoon. Inspector Leo Tooman says a Mazda was spotted being driven in a manner that caused concern and a patrol car began to pursue it. He says it appears the pursuing officer had concerns about the man's driving and after two minutes gave up the chase. A few seconds later, at the intersection of Gordonton and Puketaha Roads, the Mazda collided with a northbound Toyota people mover carrying six men. The Mazda driver died at the scene from his injuries.

The occupants of the van were taken to hospital, none with life threatening injuries. Gordonton Road was closed for more than two hours for a scene examination to be completed. "

seriously how can you say it ends well.....that is a tragic end to an idiot, yes an idot, thinking he could out run the police.
They get your number plate first so racing away just delays the inevitable.
I can't understand why they just dont' stop and take the consquensences.
Oh yes, maybe, just maybe, they have not been bought up to accept personal responisbitly and in this namby pamby society it will only get worse.

But really, this did not end well at all

Agreed. Innocent parties injured etc, not a good outcome but I must agree with Scummy on one point; the driver who died can no longer cause mayhem on the roads. Sad for his family but a relief for the rest of us. As an example, how was this cock in Nelson? He's gonna be out and about before you know it, probably doing the same shit. Keep your eyes open.

Sure, there were innocents injured - but none were life threatening...no innocents died..

I can't recall the last time I heard of anyone doing a runner in a car and getting away with it. Bikes? Yes, but not in a car. I wouldn't even attempt to do a runner my waddling, jelly-filled blancmange.

I have pics of my children and their acheivement awards on the fridge, don't want some idjits name up there.

I'd say in 20 months time he will be back in the news. It would be nice to think he would come out of jail and realise the error of his ways and become a productive member of society. I dont'know many people that have been to jail but one that I do, did his time, was released and with the love and support of his women has turned his life completely around.

yeah that is the cop out story they invent to explain their bad behaviour, coming form my background and when I did get into trouble, I too, was given this as an 'out' from my lawyer.
Oh you poor girl, we can get you off this charge....no way.

Why do adults make up excuses for bad behaviour? Why has bed behaviour become so acceptable? FFS, now my blood is starting to boil.

The sentences these people (offenders) get are just a bloody joke!

Judges and lawyers are worse than the old rabbit boards for ineffectiveness, IMHO!

I know a few who have been banged up but only one who went back. Maybe there IS hope. I'll still keep a note of his name and see where he ends up in two years or less.

Agreed. The judges need to be put under the microscope. Lawyers? Well, they're just lawyers.
