Nelson Rideouts - Where next?

after waiau school trail ride, kdx's are farking magic ;P and yes woodman, there is such a sense of giving it gas and she'll be right, ive never had the front wheel off the ground so much on rough terrain, up hill over ruts into ruts out the side of ruts up crests and finally nearly had my friends face imprinted on my front wheel too hehe, luckily it was only close!, with that i also jumped into a big erosion ditch too, suprisingly no damage :>

i think all u nelsonians should get little dirt bikes, and padmei find some more beans to cough up on a decent bike and u will be sooooooo happy with it

got my virtually brand new kdx200 for a farking good price :P keep looking!

Yes we seem to regularly pushing the boundaries of "Adventure" riding.

Mind you after yesterdays hopping up banks and bush wacking and crazy hill climbing and crashing etc I was riding home along the motorway and thought that I could just as easily gas up and ride the south island right then and there. Thats what its all about.

Sorry for kinda merging the 2 threads...

but I've never really been one for going fast or the inclination to beat the guy in front (missing the X factor you coud say). I would be more incined to do enduro type stuff (well the enduro type stuff I remember from the days when Collie dog had long flowing hair) than flat out mx type riding.
Over the years from the look of it, enduro has changed like many other sports & the impossible then is common place now. However I digress...again...

I guess cruising along the Rainbow & over Porika & stuff is great on the big bike- when I feel like doing that, however I like the idea of having a bike that I can bush bash without doing my back in picking it up all the time. I wouldn't call what we were doing in the weekend adv riding more trail riding with big bikes, which is fun- while the bikes are upright.
Dunno what my point here is really but here's some things to discuss...

What has happened to enduro type riding in the Sth Island? Have the crustys & Josh coppins etc made MX that attractive enduro has lost out to it's flashy cousin?
Huge followings of Red Bull Romaiacs erzburg etc overseas - why not here?
If I did get a pure trail bike are there many places left to ride? Gates seem to be going up everywhere. Hira is great but after 20 times it could get boring (hasn't yet tho...)
Would I end up riding the big bike if I had a small fun bike that gave me the adrenalin rush everytime I took it out rather than riding for hours along mundane roads till I got somewhere interesting?

Will I ever get my end of year accounts tidied up instead of posting long meaningless rambings on the internet in a sad attempt to stay out of the office?

I think enduros now have a mx style stage which has made them even more specialised and spectator friendly. Same with Rugger, they have changed the rules that much to make it more of a spectacle for spectators that the game is all fcuked. (no rucking ffs)

What happened to the good old hare scrambles, and enduro class mx.??

A blinker bulb broke due to vibration.
"It sits nicely on 120 on the gravel and will get to 140"...
1L of oil had to be added...
I've had to remove the bashplate so I can panelbeat it back into shape as it's a bit bent and touches the exhaust header...
The right footpeg mount has copped a big rock. Enough to bend the mounting washer 90 degrees...

They went through the Rainbow and got rained on down Jacks and into Hanmer.
The got rained on until about halfway through the Molesworth.
Couldn't do Altimarloch as it was covered in cloud.
They headed up Northbank Road and crossed the Wairau opposite the Branch buildingy thingy. The water wasn't more than wheel deep.
Then back to St Arnaud.

I'd rather spend a couple of days on the bike than a couple of hours, hell it takes me a couple of hours to get ready, and I guess I don't have the same comitments as the rest of the NADS so I/we can get away and see something new

Oh, the days of being able to ride, anytime, so often.

I keep reading about "adventure" riding and there's a niggle. Isn't there a demarcation point between trail riding and adventure riding? Adventure riding I would've thought would be totally self sufficient..., tent on the back and disappearing for several days. Anything else on dirt must surely be moto-x or trail riding. In which case, KLR ain't it

Where did "adventure" riding come from?
Are we being Americanized?

I guess that was the point of my last post Veny. The link I gave is to what "I" consider ADV riding. Tent on the back, tucker in the saddle bags and going somewhere I've never been before, even if 90% was on the seal, it was still an adventure. It must've been an adventure, I had a peak on my helmet

Also.... the thought of constantly picking up the Big makes my hair stand on end.
I think this could really open a can of worms

I think an adventure bike is a bike that can do it all.
Maybe not well, but it can do it.

We've had CT110's up Patriarch in the snow alongside Africa Twins.
1150gs's alongside SMX50 motards on the 7 Summits ride.
CT125's alongside KLR's and DR's on laidback trail rides.
690e's playing with KDX200's on an MX track.
CRF230's dicing with WeeStroms on the Invasion.

It's all an adventure.

Just different sorts of adventure.

I think an adventure is what you have when you're not on the perfect bike for the terrain.

Road bike in the gravel, VeeStrom up Big River, Africa Twin on a laidback, MX bike on the seal, KLR almost anywhere.

As long as you've got a peak on your helmet and carry a camera.
Wonder what's up here or over there?
