You won't need a really aggressive tyre but something at least semi knobby would be a good idea given the high chance of snow & the certainty of a few muddy sections of road.

The cabins are pretty basic, remember there is better accomodation just down the road at the Rangitaiki lodge also. Hard to beat a hot pool though!

The ride is just roads, sometimes bordering on 4x4 track, but no gnarly trail stuff at all. (although I might throw in some optional side tracks for the dirtier minded of the group) No limit on numbers, but there are only 20 bunks/mattresses at the station & 2 of my non KB mates have put their names down already, so if you are #19 or higher to register you will need to bring a camp mat or something & be prepared to sleep on the floor.

Yeah, thats what I thought last year. My booked and confirmed cabin turned into a fold out sofa................

I remember last year being firken freezing riding in at 3.30pm. Bugger making that trek from Taupo 1st thing in the morning.

Our cabin at least had a heater - (probably because someone left the cabin door open that afternoon to 'air' the room.... & let the rain in instead. I guess they were trying to dry things out....). I'm cabinning again at the pub....

Blouse, try leaving Wellington at 4am to be at the start at 8am.
