At the risk of instant vilification, I confess to having a Certificate in Health and Safety Management and being our workplace HSE Coordinator in additiion to my main role. Next week my main task is to re-write our HSE policy. Now that my credentials are established I need to say that even though the stuff the OP mentioned was tagged for 'Health and Safety', as someone else said, it was more about corporate risk management. Two points I want to make:

    > The tag 'Health and Safety' is used for all manner of things because 'HSE' is a scary name and a bloody good way to get things done without argument is label it 'a Health and Safety issue'. I fight it at work quite a bit. "No it's not HSE, it's just a managment issue. Go do your job and don't pass the buck"
    > Some people who do HSE are just officious little NAZIs who micromanage the easy stuff. EG, I was talking to a woman today who has to complete a 2 page accident form for anything requiring the first aid kit being used ... even a paper-cut. Trouble is that these 'HSE people' have no idea about doing the important stuff. They like the power and think they're doing a good job but all they really do is give HSE practitioners and the function itself a bad name.

Yep. You're bang on right. Fucking stupid is what it is - the dumbing down of society by a bunch of wankers.

Its not like he was reaching for a nail gun - we have (IMHO) become soft as a Nation. Growing up I was electrocuted, hit in the head with a hammer and al sorts of stupid accidents. What I can tell you though is each incident only happened once. Problem now days is we are not permitted to learn boundaries (or what hurts and what does not) so as not to do it again..

Originally when the whole H & S started up it was a fairly big job for the company to get up to scratch, once the hazard management is done and documented it's not that hard to keep it up to date

Is anyone aware of the fines that can be dished out?, it's not just the company you work for that can get nailed, you personally can be held accountable and fined if you're doing dumb shit

Max my friend,I've never stopped to think when confronted with people in pain . I just bloody well help them as best I can.Love ya mate for doing the right thing and telling them fascist barstards to take it and shove it.Right thing by our standards that is.
Dangereous, you continue to raise your kids as you and your good lady see fit, to hell with the Gay, Childless(the natural way at least) bully boy/girl, tree hugging wankers out ther who think they know better than you do.
At 17 x 2 and 15 times 1, my girls would no sooner think of swearing at me or anyone else for fear of the following whistling whack across the ear that would descend on them like a ton of bricks.
They don't talk with food in thier mouth either.
"I don't know" is never heard here, as if it i,s someone has a sore backside.
Um is another, never heard here.
Please and thank you on the other hand is often heard here, even when they'd rather kill one another than talk civilly.
Simple really, repitition repitition and consequence.
    Works everytime.
Boring as all hell for the first 15-16 years but pays dividends in the long run.You learn pretty fast who your friends are too, the good ones back you and stop saying "it's Ok they're only kids" Quite quickly. They are the same ones who trip over themselves getting the girls to come baby sit for them cause they know there will be no shenanigans.
Your a brave man saying that out loud!
how dare you bring up your children to be decent adults (sarcasam icon here)

I think you should conduct some testing to see if you can light the pepper spray by using simultaneously
could be a new front line weapon (if doesnt work could always use a lighter)

Surely you can 'forget' when dealing with a few of your clients?

+1 This is pretty spot on IME.

So next time some pratt tries on the HS&E nazi trick, stop and ask them as politely as possible:

    What is the identified hazard?
    What is the potential harm?
    What is the likely consequence?
What the fuck is your problem?

If they can't answer these questions properly, then it isn't really a health & safety issue, it's just that they don't like what you're doing - probably because it will cause them to have to (ack!) work. Like wipe down the counter - OH NOES!!

PS that was general advice, not directed at Oakie, as he seems to know how the game is played.
    Keep on chooglin'

Hell that's what you get for shopping at poncy New World, half those prats behind the counter out there seem to think they are something special for some reason, not sure why perhaps they live in that snobbish Westlake bit, which I remember as being called "the crystal" and the land being spud paddocks. The other half well are brainless gimps who cant think thus have to follow the stupid company line.

That aside they are possibly none the wiser, as the world has progressively gotten more wrapped up in cotton wool and the pervasiveness of America culture has invaded, the basic level of common sense has decreased to the point I now understand the need for labels on toasters saying don't use this in the bath etc. Unfortunately this has lead to a culture where any of the cool fun stuff we did as kids is now frowned upon, parents such as yourself who really just wants their kid to have the same opportunity for fun as you did no longer have the option of raising kids to think for themselves and learn action and consequence.

By the time your lad is playing father to your grand kids I suspect the state will have removed all rights from parents then we will really see the stupid generations who cant think for themselves.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

yeah, the boy now rides on the tank of the bikes round the yard, rests feet on fairing, holds onto the blade or dash, and has a grin like a chesire cat, some will say thats a stupid thing to do, but hey he also can and knose how to start a bike and the twist grip makes the rpm needle move... but he also knows the red button stops it, he only started walking a week ago.
