Crash protection?

I have just brought a k6 gsxr 600 to have as a track bike, not a race bike. What are good reputable sources and brands for stator and engine sliders and axle armour? Any thing else I should consider? Fairings perhaps, as coin allows-any brands to avoid? How hard is it to fit race fairings up? Help appreciated.

R&G make crash protectors for everything you described and their on-line shop is excellent.

Fitting race bodywork is easy but depending on who supplies it - you may have to drill some holes for the screen and air ducts etc. Some race fairing tail units allow you to use the original seat, others will require a foam pad.
A radiator guard is a useful addition too. Again R&G do these.
Yoshimura also do loads of crash protection for Suzukis

Try woodcraft racing as well. I can vouch for the strength of the engine covers, and the replaceable skid pads built into them work a treat too.

An ex-NZ 600 champ was telling us the other day that he has his clutch and brake levers just 'pinched' up, so if the bike does go down the levers will rotate rather than snap. Of course if the clip on is ruined that won't matter on the day, but otherwise it will probably keep you riding for the rest of the day.

can you kindly explain more what it means to pinch up levers...? I was thinking of replacing them with racing levers of a particular brand that apparently has a 8-way rotation of sorts so that when the bike goes down, the lever just rotates rather than snap off (sorry that was a terrible description!)

I'm guessing what he means is tighten the bolts holding the perch onto the bars just enough so the under normal use they won't move, but if struck hard enough will allow the perch to rotate. 'Pinching up' basically means doing something up until it grabs, but not over tightening it.

Well said i was in fact gunna say the same thing. Yoshi engine protectors are bout $500 !!! So i went with the r an g ones for bout $300 ive started to grind it down abit on one side ..... Lucky i got em :-)

Johnny Wagner does nice and cheap home-spun crash bungs. Better than some of the "brand" ones I've seen too.

Get hold of billy on here he will have fairings for that model cant be beaten on price

Johnny Wagner does nice and cheap home-spun crash bungs. Better than some of the "brand" ones I've seen too.

Not Bungs that stick out the side of the bike, cuasing it to flip around if it hits some thing on the ground

Also, GBRacing do case covers. Woodcraft are nice but more expensive and replace the whole cover. GB Racing are cheaper but fit over your existing cover.

Crash wise, the woodcrafts are better and you can replace the skid plates so if you have the $$, I'd go for those
