Hi all, (esp Big Dave / Kiwifruit / Enigma / Keystone /J Random etc)
A lanesplit motorcycle video artwork with 'unnamed' kiwibiker's- showing twin-channel video recordings of two bikes lanesplitting the Auckland Northern motorway to the CBD - has been nominated as one of four finalists in the country's biggest art award!

An excerpt from the lanesplit is here, titled Passing Manoeuvre with Two Motorcycles and 584 Vehicles for Two-Channel Video shown at ST PAUL St, Auckland (19 June – 7 July 2008):

So lane-splitting supports the arts? Next time you get stopped for it just point them towards this!

I forgot to tell you - which was remis as we all know who was the original guinea-pig to sort out the idea of a two bike split to see if the video-side of it worked!

In the 1st version over 700 cars were passed and in the second version over 500 cars were passed.

If you look at image no 8 on http://www.alexmonteith.com/work_detail.php?id=66# you'll clearly see a copper on the slow lane. Notice the bike is overtaking on the left side of the road...

Shame that most of the first clip (I didn't watch the 2nd) showed the bikes between a vehicle and a lane marking on the left. This is the ILLEGAL side of lanesplitting. And it's why the rozzers are getting narky with all lanesplitting.
Couldn't the film maker have done everyone a favour and made sure that passing was on the right?
    Otherwise, neat idea.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Point taken re the lane position LHS RHS etc - I must say there was another major hurdle in the work -the cams foreshorten distance-so to see each bike they had to be unnaturally close together..just a matter of a few meters-this made the rear riders job very difficult indeed

lol - I could invite you to the opening? Or the Kiwibiker enthusiasts... who seem to drop patches - when J Radom did that last time the smoke filled the atrium so thickly that apparently they were 4 seconds from a set of sprinklers turning on in the building... I'll try and find that pic...
