Stuck rings...

I've decided to not tear my FS-1 fizzy to bits for parts for my YG-1 but decided to do it up instead as it's mostly complete.
(1970's Yamaha 50cc 2-stroke road-bike for those who may not know what one is)

Anyway, this bike had been outside for a while before I purchased it and didn't have a sparkplug in it. Result - dry seized of course.
So, took the head off, got lots of oil in there, left it for a while and then turn the engine over with the spanner on the flywheel, without much effort it turned over and managed to get the barrel and piston out.
Barrel looks good only a couple of tiny marks here and there. Piston looks good too but only issue is the rings are stuck in grooves.
What do you recommend the best way of unsticking them is?
Soak the piston in CRC?

Soak, scrape, repeat. But more than once I've ended up having to smash them out. If you can get one end moving a bit you can flex and wiggle the end, very very patiently and free the ring up. But it's not an easy task

Rings are soon damn small, I'm concerned about breaking them. As you know, old Yamaha engine parts are getting hard to source.

I would try warming it and cooling it in cycles too... different materials, diff expansion rates.

I think you're going to have to resign yourself to breaking them out...
If the bore size is common then it is a simple matter for a machist to widen the grooves on a lathe to accomodate differnt rings.

Everything is possible. It just takes time and money...

No - thats a fair advantage, its handicaped by a fat rider and 1 less gear ;-)

It might be worth a call to Cliff Bond in chch, if you know the dimensions they can dig through their stock of rings to see if there's something that'll fit.

I got new ones for my 1956 Puch from them by matching up the size.
