I dont know if its arrogants/impatience or just plan old 'I dont even give a shit about my own life' but, I drive alot in my job and see it lot on the road.
Case 1: Six Gang members from Northland were heading south through Te Hana. I was at a stop on SH1 controlled by roadworkers. Didnt bother the bikies, they just got into the oncoming lane and carried on, oncoming vehicles had to pull over the left, plus, the 30kph sign ment nothing.
Case 2: In the Dome Valley the other day, a cruiser was behind me (im in the van once again) so I give him room to slide past (im good like that) then he get so close to the car ahead of him, so close in fact, his front wheel is alongside the right rear wheel of the car!! he goes to overtake on a right hander, not alot of vision but attempts it anyway. Then has to break and get back in line! yes theres a car! All this less than 400 mts from a passing lane, he then pulls out and passes on double yellows 50 mts from said passing lane.
what i really dont' understand is ...you say they are filming without cosent...why do they need it? I've never heard of a person asking if they can speed, drive drunk, steal someone's possesions...no. No permission is given to committ a crime, so why on earth should the police ask permission to do there job...hell if everyone was law abiding (yeah I know huge joke) they would not need to resort to these tactics. Maybe they are just looking out for the lives of New Zealanders and maybe it costs them money to do so. How about looking at it from the other side for a change?

To clarify the point of the exercise - Targeting hazardous driving IS protecting people.... the people that then don't become victims of dickhead drivers and riders that crash into them.
As has been said in this thread previously. They need to target bad drivers and do something to improve this. There was an article in the Harold this morning about lowering the speed limit in the Brynderwyns.

Agency northern highways manager Tommy Parker says the lower limit is needed to improve safety on a challenging stretch of road with narrow lanes, tight corners and limited visibility.
"It is a section of highway that demands full driver attention - many people have been caught out and crossed the centre line or left the road with disastrous results."
There are many 'challenging' roads in NZ. Are they going to lower the speed limit nationwide wide because people don't know how to drive anymore. I though all roads in NZ demand full driver attention.
Speeding Safely!
Hey at least now they're attempting to target something that can be somewhat dangerous unlike their usual "speed scams", & the Manawatu is probably one of the better places to do it they have some of the worst (& slowest) drivers in NZ.
One day the road police will focus on the real problems out there (Drunk (Not tipsy!) & Slow drivers) but till then this is one step forward.

Deep breaths people. Taking a rational approach - Once you get past he standard indignation, anything that make people think more about their driving/riding is a good thing
To be fair, there are a number of curves you can straightline in a car without endangering safety in the gorge. I'll happily surrender this small benefit (not one I'd use on the bike, robs all the fun) if it means less retards coming around a corner in my lane.
I just dislike the fact that now if I execute a quick, safe, and efficient pass on a motorbike, a civil servant getting paid to sit in a bush might snap me for it.
