Have any of you women (generally purchasers at shops like this) had this happen before?

I go into the new supre clearance store in Manukau this morning and buy 2 sale items - one with $13 on the tag, the other with $10 on the tag. Because I was in a hurry with people waiting for me I didn't question at the time the $24 bill rung up on the till. I get home, scratch my head and look at the till receipt. I was charged $12 per item.

Since I was out and about again this afternoon I go in (with items and receipt in hand) and query them. I was told all the sale items are $12. Hang on, says me, here is this item with its tag still attached and it says $10 on the bright orange sticker. Oh, says them, that's Australian dollars. WTF? Where does it say that, asks me. It's meant to be $12 for NZ dollars, that sticker is the Australian price.

Now, I say, well I realise it's only $1 and I'm not going to quibble over that but I think it's pretty bad that you have charged me $12 for something which clearly states 10, and this is NZ, not Australia. Sorry love, says them (wanted to smack her, all of about 18 years old, calling me "love") but that's the story.

So word of warning - query your till receipt discrepancy at the time because wouldn't it just be a nice little rip off for some company to get extra $ out of you...............

I'm not pissed about the $1, but I am about the principle of the matter. Aaaarrrghh.

During my time as operations manager for Botany Town Centre I had a lot of queries like this.

Basically, the price on the tag is deemed to be in NZ$ when bought in NZ unless it specifically says so. There must be adequate and legible siignage in the store if any item is being sold at currency other than the home currency. Your receipt should have a conversion calculation if it was AS$ based on the current exchange rate or the advertised exchange rate in the store.

I beleive they have broken the law here in some respects. Good one for pointing this out because a lot of these clearance stores have little scams like this.

As for law of contract, you paid in NZ$ for an item that you believed to be at an NZ price so they, under contract and consumer law, have no right to change currency.

Did the stuff fit by the way? I have terrible trouble trying to find anything that works for me in Supre. I bought a 3XL sparkly boob tube once but couldnt get it over my flabby beer tits. Sewed a gusset onto it and now use it as my best dancing pants......

Yeah, it's quite common to have both on the genuine original attached tag. This, however, was the bright orange $10.00 special sticker with no reference to A$ or NZ$. I think that it is only fair to assume that a "specials" sticker would be in the currency of the country the item is being sold in. Would you expect to go into a retail store in NZ and have to ask if the special price on the sticker is in NZ$? (even if the garments/items originate from a country other than NZ, which seems to be the case these days as sweet shit all appears to be actually manufactured here any more).

Correct. The price advertised for an item is deemed in your countries currency unless otherwise marked.

It is a Supre store, the 3XL stands for 3 Extra Little. The clothes we get in the Aussie Supre stores are geared at the Asian market. As they are generally more petite girls.

I doubt if it was a scam as posted here, but probarbly more of a cockup. nevertheless if the tagged price is different to the system (till) price the shop should honour the tag price no questios asked. Thats the policy I have in my business. Price ticketing descrepancies are pretty common in a lot of retail businesses, but most do not allow their checkout guys to manually adjust the price, and I suspect this is what happened in this case, the checout person just couldn't be assed getting a supervisor for the sake of $1. Probly cost them more than that now though.

I had something similar happen in Borders in qheeen street. We bought a bunch of books and a Diary. The diary front and center on the top corner had $25.00 in bright big numbers. I got the stuff home and saw I'd been charged $34.00 (not exact numbers) On the backcorner it had a price lable saying $34.00 nz and the front tag said $25 aud

I'm stingy like that, I would have demanded the $1 back and said it was false advertising. More than half the stuff in that shop isn't actually on sale anyway. And most of what I tried on was badly made (not on topic but still).
