Two seriously injured in motorcycle crash near Blenheim (23 May)

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/3729...-near-Blenheim

Two people are in a serious condition after the Harley Davidson motorcycle they were on ploughed into the side of a turning vehicle on State Highway 6 near Blenheim this evening.

The 54-year-old male driver was airlifted to Nelson Hospital by the Summit Rescue Helicopter with serious head and chest injuries, while the 45-year-old female pillion passenger was transported to Wairau Hospital by Blenheim St John Ambulance with serious leg injuries.

The crash happened near Okaramio about 2.45pm.

Senior Constable Maurice Horne of Havelock Police said a green car was turning right off SH6 into Norths Rd when the motor cycle, which was overtaking another vehicle travelling towards Blenheim, ``ploughed'' into the right side of the vehicle.

The impact "flipped'' the passengers off the bike, Mr Horne.

The motorbike then collided with a power pole and came to rest in a ditch about 25 metres from the point of impact.

Emergency services tended to the occupants in the ditch about 10m from the bike.

The motorcycle was part of a group of four returning to Blenheim after a day trip to Rai Valley.

Mr Horne said the Serious Crash Investigation unit would investigate. The Renwick and Havelock volunteer fire brigades attended the incident.

What ??? not to overtake ??? Because if the turning car did not indicate their intention to turn, the motorcyclist was not at fault.

Whether the driver indicated or not there would have been plenty of clues as to their intention.

"Pretty big if" and I'm not sure that would much consolation to them even if it is correct.

Let us all be thankful that they didn't hit a bridge...to see your trolling face crawl out from under it...

Crikey Katman! I think I'll wait until the full facts of the investigation are known before pointing the finger at anyone or apportioning blame.

Irrespective of the reason or cause I sincerely hope rider, passenger and car occupants pull through.

I'm not apportioning blame at all.

Unfortunately I have to agree with katman on this point, he is not apportioning blame. He is however being an insensitive prick. Go figure.
