I don't know that there is such a thing. I read the FIM enduro rules recently and it says nothing about it, but I regularly hear of some limit especially in connection with "forestry approved", whatever that is. Maybe it's a historical thing since dropped?? There's an FIM or DOT tread depth limit it seems (1/2" with many MX tyres 20/32ths) so that could be it, esp. given most fronts are shallower than the rears. Full tread depth is often quoted in tyre specs but gap between blocks almost never is.
A quick check of garage stock shows the NHS S12 having the biggest gap at ~44mm, next biggest is the FIM/DOT Competition III at 36mm. Almost everything was smaller, many in the 28-30mm range eg Scorpion MX eXTra (NHS), Metzeler MC4 (NHS, soft terrain, S12 competitor) & AC10/Crossengo (DOT). Intermediate terrain D756 (NHS) was more like 20mm, typical of the class eg Innovas, Yokohama SuperDigger.
Many of the DOT fronts had a bigger gap than the NHS rears. However the S12 has the biggest gap and is NHS; similarly the D756.

Not sure where this is - wairoa gorge?
I was thinking another cruise around Hira - Wairoa gorge would be fine by me but I can only really ride gravel as my worn E09 won't handle anything half slippery with the big smooth ridge thru the middle of it. Whats the conditions like there at the mo?
Was thinking Sunday morn 930 - 10ish?
I'm up for a bit of a spin , dont much care where (havnt been riding in ages)
Spent mostly all day doing electrical stuff to the @ so it would be a shame not to see how far my handywork gets me.
snow sounds good (me = nice new tyres)
Does someone want to step up & make a decision cos it's Friday & after a hard week I'm mindfked.I also have a problem getting out of my comfort zone sometimes so to me Hira is always usually the easiest option.
I may get into the shed tomm & put on a half worn MT21 rear. I can't remember if they're totally useless once half gone but I guess I may find out
You'll be hard to keep up with on the tracks now Will with knobs.
My call is for Wairoa/Ben Nevis. Just for something different!
There's lots of gravel roads & tracks to explore, and lots of little side tracks for the more adventurous. We don't have to do a "Shane Special"I'd just like to fossick about and learn the place a bit more. I've got shagged Kn Obli-wans so I won't looking for too much in the way of bottomless slick mudholes.
10am departure from the cafe in Wakefield? Meet beforehand for coffee?
Cheers,
Colin
