True, but I think even solo on a brand new R1 I'd still struggle to keep up. It is a bit hard to get your arse off the seat when there's a leg in the way though.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

I also had a brillant day. Cheers all.

It was great that there was very little grit on the road. The learners did very well, how did the ride home go?

Totally agree, last time I jumped on a friends GN250 I found it totally not confidence inspiring.
IMHO you have a better experience on a VT250 Spada or earlier VT250F if you can fit on one.
We tried a couple of other bikes (CBX250RS and GSX250) but when I found l the V twin Janet made huge improvements in her riding in a very short time. She even started following me into the shingle roads without hesitation on it.
The CBX250RS had shot suspension and was too revvy, the GSX was too revvy too.

Well good on you both for going into print and criticizing the learners bikes.

You are both showing the real kiwi biker spirit.

lol, no offence intended. You could take from it that they are indeed doing really well, better than they realise considering their rides.
But yes the GN is probably still one of the most common choices, other than possibly the seat height I just don't know why. Marketing perhaps?

A change of handlebars can make a big difference on those bikes, if the later GN still have the same bars as the earlier model they sit you to upright and to far back, lower flatter bars make a big difference to the feel of them

lol, but seriously, it's good to hear your opinions about it - I can say it's a docile bike. as for general handling, I guess I will be able to comment on that when I upgrade to a different bike and get an impression of the difference.

Encountered some very courteous car drivers on the ride yesterday.
I was actually quite happy to sit behind them on the way home til a long(ish) clear bit of road appeared but for the most part the drivers made quite an effort to pull over and let me through. Nice work car driver types!

Probably the locals who know the bikes on this road are going to pass and let hem through.

They even let me through. There was a 4wd that pulled right over, but there was a audi who sped up to 130 as we came up behind him to try to stop us passing.

Gezzz Flip... as TA says, our posts were an incouragment, shit dont get me started or Ill mention that the GN is a beter handler than your Hogley, I never saw the GNs going wide

Now the GN is awesome to learn the basics on, but IMHO not the best at learing to corner at speeds in the twisties, I reccon they dont have enough weight on the frount end, thus many have lost the frount in shingle, this also means not a lot of bike feed back through the frount end, a must to get to know ya bike.

Kickaha's idea of different bars is a mint idea, eg: he races a GN125, a F4 classic thats handles aswell as the best, bars are one thing he changed.
