Look fwd to the new technology ......bring it on

V-Rod is still a little mild at only 120 at the crank ......the 'Busa is lighter and does 197 crank and 180+ rwhp, hence my comments re the drive train thing ......Steeel vs a rubber band

Ya just can't win aye, messy system chains. HD intro new technology and are considered Agricultural. And the fucker's copy it.
yeah yeah...but chains are cheap as chips and take like two seconds to replace, and i hate old filthy lookin chains anyway so dont mind replacing mine often (if every 25,000k can be called often)

Where do you get your information from mate? We've turbo charged and supercharged HD's at work...and got them to produce near 200HP at the wheel. The belt is no issue. Have you not noticed how huge nitro burning drag cars have a toothed rubber belt driving the super charger? And seeing as you know so much about HP etc (as you own the fastest bikes etc etc)...you must know that blowers can use as much as 1/3 of the engines HP to drive them? So if a motor is making a few thousand HP (as big nitro motors do), does it seem odd to you that the toothed rubber belt can drive the blower? How many blowers are driven by a chain?

Don't knock stuff till ya know about it.

I live on a 16 k gravel road... have heard that the fact they belt driven and gravel can cause the belt to break that i shouldnt get one any harley riders find that this is a prob on gravel roads?? bike shop owners tell ya anything cos they want you to buy their bike instead.. so wanted to check with some riders
My Sportster was a great bike, I would buy another in a blink of an eye. I'd take the risk if I were you, stones can flick up and damage the belt, but you could have a flat tyre, whatever, and be just as pissed off !

If you want one, you will never be happy buying something else, just because it had a chain.

love the belt drive on my buell. really love it.

had a belt break on me and it was a pain, but i had done 8000 k on it with a hole in the middle of the belt, without getting a spare on board. And I was putting all the power I could through the belt at the time.

I find gravel roads fine and ride them a lot, I take a lot of care with new seal and hot sealed roads with lose gravel, stones with hot tar on them that stick to the belt.

It is not hard to carry a spare and sounds like it is an easy job to change on a sportster, takes about 15 mins with a buell and easy to do on the side of the road.

As above, I worry more about roadworks gravel than gravel roads, - tar at the road-works causes sharp stones to stick to the tyres and then flung all over the underneath of the bike - and into the belt.

Yeah Doc, I've noticed that and not yet heard how they get away with it - CBs (normajean) 1200 Sporty has a bigger belt than a 1550 Soft-tail.

In a 160,000k's I have broken one belt and that was at manfield I have been over dansey's pass a few times no prob's,you are right about new sealed roads but you can sometimes feel a vibe when a stone is stuck and pull over and flick it out as for the strength of belts they had a drag cllass in oz big motors and mark wacker from morgan + wacker hd used a a stock belt all season and no probs as pete said belt tec has come a long way my xr1200 has 30,000 k's on it and the belt looks fine, should get another 30 or more out of it and yea no oiling or crap to clean of your wheel.

Does that cover the full cost of installing the new belt? Or just the belt itself? Depending on the model, the two are quite different.
