Genuine parts - Pricing

Just been on the phone with my local Honda Stealer getting a quote for one Genuine Honda front sprocket, Now I had already looked up what the part was worth in the US of A and found the quite reasonable price of $36US, So I guessed I'd be looking at around double that price to get one here.

Well my estimate was slightly on the low side, and the quoted price of $159 almost made me cry.. More than quadrupling the US Price??

This Isn't the first time I've been blown away by the local part prices, and find myself sourcing and importing parts myself to save considerable coin!

What sort of markup are they putting on this stuff?? Crazy.

Well you know the old story, smaller market, higher freight costs etc etc.You could always just buy direct from usa, will get here faster to.

Manufactered cost.
Exporter margin.
Freight companies fee.
Importers margin.
Dealers margin.

Theres to many people in the fckin supply chain ! !

yup, know where you are coming from. Had the same type of experience with a bit of bling for the X Now do the same exercise on m/c tyres. The yanks must have massive buying power. With converted dollars you can buy a set there for what we pay for one here!!!

That`s shocking, I got quoted today both sprockets(JT) and chain(DID )for $350 fitted for my bird, bugger getting genuine sprockets, shop around

Shop around is good advice - but don't limit yourself to city dealers.
In my experience the "big city" shops put a loading on the Mnf reccommended price whereas rural/small town shops generally don't.

Only reason I wanted the honda sprocket was because it comes with a dampner, less noise, vibes etc.

Genuine Hyosung Parts shipped personally from Korea: $325(three different parts, so it wasn't bulk buying/shipping)

Genuine Hyosung Parts bought down the road: $776

It's all mark up, rather than buying power of a country. Else they may as well pay consumer rates if bulk rates are more.
