Motorbike luggage - Proper rack bag or normal bag?

Looking to start travelling a bit on my bike this coming summer and obviously need to take clothing with us. I have a ventura pack rack system on my gsxr1000. Normally have the grab handle on but will change to the pack rack part when i need to use it.

Question is, do i need to buy a proper pack rack luggauge bag? Or can i just use a normal luggauge bag and strap it with a cargo net and or elastic straps?

Looking for a cheap way to keep my luggauge safe while i ride at 99.9kph, or there abouts.

Having seen the result of a sleeping bag come loose on a bungy and feed into the back wheel causing much damage and a broken leg, I have a ventura luggage system on the pack rack, aerodynamic and nothing tacked to the sides to flap.

I had a couple of bags modified at a saddler/ sewing lady's place and they slot straight over. I also had a custom bag made from scratch out of the cordura style fabric for $50. It was twice the capacity of ventura, but fit my bike better in shape and acted ad a back rest.
Worth looking at a saddler to price one up I reckon. Worked for me.

I would go for a proper rack bag set.

I have two rack bags that go on either side of the pack rack and zip together for my SV. They are brilliant and have loads of storage space.

I wouldn't go back to tying a bag on with bungy cords. I still vividly remember my bag flying off at 140kmph and getting hit by the car behind me. It was not fun picking up my underwear, shoes and toiletries off the middle of the road at 7pm at night while dressed in full leathers and continually being honked at by cars going past. Somewhat embarrassing.

Go for the proper bag on a rack. Its safer and better. I've found a dude on tarde me who does awesome bags for stuff all that are very waterproof, zip together and half the price of a ventura bag. FYI thanks to Hawkeye for showing me them.

Another vote for the proper bag. It doesn't have to be a Ventura bag though, other manufacturers make bags to fit the Ventura hardware.
