hey, just wondering what sort of hp/voltage is needed on a generator to run two sets of tyre warmers and possibly a small compressor (obviously only for short periods of time ie to fill tank).
thanks for any advise!
peace

2 x tyre warmers = 2000watts But they use a bit more under load. (when first turned on especially)
So I would anticipate 2500W generator for those alone.
I don't know how many watts a compressor uses, but if 2000 then you might need a 5000W genie for everything.
And I could be completely wrong, but no doubt some clever cookie will be along soon ......

if your compressor is say 2.5hp (use motor current/hp rating not comp output)
its gonna run around 8 amps or so fully loaded, generally a compressor starts up fairly unloaded unless the tank is already compressed. Kindof like having a low inertial load on it and this effects your startup torque. Even when your compressor gets to pressure the motor should not be running at motor max load.
The start current can be upto 6 times running current which is what will stall your genset if it cannot deliver this current.
Btw the Generator is rated for continuous loading with provision for short period overloading.
will you run you compressor while heating your tyres?
and what size compressor are you wanting to run?
and whats the loading of the tyre warmers?
Just get 2.5kw geny and unplug the warmers when ya turn the compressor on
I see that Repco is running a special on the Firmin 2200W generator this week $399 save $200
2200W
is that 2.2kW alternator power,
2.2kW motor power at running speed
or 2.2kW motor peak power if we dont care what frequency we're generating.
Compare kVA ratings if you want to evaluate price and actual ability to supply power.
You get what you pay for. Most cheap genys are shit, made from crappy components that don't last. $399 falls into that catagory.
Pay more and you can keep your genys for years.
Most small geny's will not run a compressor .. the start up draw is too high.
There are, however, quite good little compressors available that run on 12 volts. TWL has some and they look fine for pumping bike tyres up.
Then all you need to do is keep a battery charger on your vehicle so you can start at the end of the day![]()
Being Honda dealers we have been fortunate enough to run a Honda EU20i inverter generator.
We have had the same one for about 5 or 6 years now. No problems. The beauty of these is they are so quiet and a very good consistant power delivery. Always starts 1st pull.
That powers 2x tyre warmers (it can do 5 max) if we use the compressor we flick the tyre warmers off till the comp tank is full.
Also come duck shooting it runs all the lights in the maimai, the gas heater, chip fryer and kettle.
I am being completely biased here being a dealer but I also speak with alot of truth when I saw that Honda generators are very very good and keep on going. They are pricey but you truely do get what you pay for with generators.

My mate had this exact Brand/Model. We ran two sets of warmers off it for 8 hours continuous without a hitch.
I recently switched to an inverter generator and its brilliant. I thought the peak power on the EU20i was 2Kva with 1.6 continuous thus only really enough for one set of warmers.
But yeah much lighter (20kg), quieter and starts first time. Only real drawback is approx 3 times the price![]()
