Shocker blood alcohol limit tests on campbell live

Anyone catch old John with his drinking guinea pigs to see how many bottle they could put away before reaching the legal limit for driving?

I was amazed to see how many were well on the way to being pissed as newts yet still came easily under the limit to still legally drive.

Steven Joyce issued a statement saying that the govt will not do anything about dropping the limits until there is New Zealand specific research to show that doing so would impact significantly on the road toll. WTF????

Oh, but we'll get those bloody dangerous 2 wheeled contraptions off the road because we all know how much THEY cost the country...... C*nt!

This is something that is in the 'too hard' basket.
Some people are too wasted to be driving even when they're under the particular breath alcohol limit that applies to them, and other people are still fine to drive even when triple the particular limit.

I do like a drink however I'm not a big drinker.

If I drink more than my comfort level and feel a bit tipsy, I won't drive.

But I could still legally drive because I would still be under the limit.

How many people do you know blowing at 1200mg/l breath are "fine to drive"? I have met many at that level and they are very very drunk and not even close to being "fine".

So we should let those people who can't handle their booze drive on the roads and put the rest of us in danger, because there are some out there who can handle their booze?

Just lower the bloody limit and be done with it. I've long been of the opinion that the limit is too high, ever since I was tested one night whilst drinking at a police bar. I felt quite unfit to drive (and didn't), and yet I was still legal.

They were averaging about 2 beers every half hour. The 28 year old 120kg? had a dozen before he was finally over the limit.

This is not new news. Some of us have known for years how much you actually have to drink before being over the limit - when someone gets pinged for drink driving and they swear they've only had one beer/wine? Bullshit.

I was referring to the youth limit in the '3 times over the limit' statement.

Lowering the limit won't achieve anything, the current laws aren't working for the hardcore recidivist offenders, why would new laws make any difference? We all know the government is trying to keep people out of jail.

You get the death penalty in some countries for drink driving, now that would most definitely work. LOL

I agree re your last comment there. No limit or law works for those that break it.... or isnt that stating the obvious.

The marketing campaign '2 standard drink limit' was amazing, most people still believe this is the case.
The reality is 'it depends', but for most people it takes significantly more than 2 to be over the limit. Makes you wonder just how many those blowing at twice/three times the limit have actually had.
