DOH! Falling off a stationary bike

The most embarrassing accident of my whole biking days today (15yrs) and I feel like a complete knob!! Pulled up at a set of lights about 1k from home and fell off my bike while it was stood completely still!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As i stopped my draggin jeans caught somewhere / somehow in the area of the right foot peg. Had already leant slightly that way to put my foot down and arrrgghhh, fuck i'm stuck. In the milli second thereafter just managed to jump off as the bike crashed to the ground!!
The sight of your bike laid on its side is just the worst thing ever.

Damage:
1 x Footpeg hanger
1 x Indicator
1x Ego

Lessons:
Tuck jeans into boots or get some clips.
Its true that most accidents happen within 10k of your home, so fuck it i'm gonna move somewhere else.

Big thanks to the guy in an Hyundai SUV who was behind me and got out to help without laughing his head off. He stopped the traffic, lifted up the bike with me and waited till i'd drove off

OMG...glad no-one was there with the video camera...it would be on youtube by now. Another reason for wearing a helmet! Draggin jeans have proven to be a hindrance not a help. Best you get rid of the offending article...leather is the best.

Shameful huh? Last year I had a S50 and the first time I rode it, I went to put my feet down but my boots had locked into the tread on the pegs.
I fell over and knocked my husband off his CBR1000 too! Didn't damage my bike, only my husband's. Broke the brake lever, bent the handle bars, cracked the bit where the foot brake is attached to the bike and broke the fairing as well.

I was laying under the bike with my boots stuck, petrol was pissing all over the road and my husband was struggling to lift his CBR. I was so upset as I had caused so much damage to his bike

I never got on that bike again, it really knocked my confidence - that was my first ride on a full license and on a "big" bike.

best place for the right foot is on the brake pedal not the ground, or isnt that taught any more??? maybe the jeans were saying something?

Been there too...damnit

I broke one of my own rules (wear the gear!) and had a pair of work boots on...with lace's!
wove through traffic and went to put my foot down and the bloody lace "loop" caught on the foot peg...."twang"...foot not quite reaching the ground and down I went
Damage...none to bike, bruise for me as I caught the bike in a "hug" and just absorbed the hit (and it HURT!...but saved my baby from any scratches ).
Served me right for not wearing my bike boots!

PS: Throw the draggin jeans away!, there bloody useless and won't help you if you go down.

It happens to all of us at some time...the other one is when you put the side stand out, but not out far enough and the bike topples onto you...happened to me outside the dairy on a busy saturday afternoon

I had a similar experience when I was a learner, which was back in the days when I didn't have the correct gear and was wearing running shoes. Somehow both of my shoe laces got caught on the rear brake lever and gear lever and when I stopped at a pedestrian crossing I was unable to put either foot down

Best moving to a hilly area so that your right foot stays glued to the brake pedal.

Sorry to hear about the fall. Really annoying. +1 to the SUV guy.

many moons ago riding in the forest on trailbikes following my son.
He stopped all of a sudden hallfway up a steepish Hill......
So I had to quickly stop as well, but ended up leaning slightly downhill....
Nothing to put foot down on there......
Son thought it was very funny....

Where I pull out from where my bike is parked at home I have to do an immediate left hand turn, pretty much from the moment I start to apply the gas.

Once I didn't quite warm the bike up enough. I let the clutch out, gave it some gas and leant left to make the turn as normal.
Except this time, the bike stalled. The bike was already leaned over; I managed to get my foot to the ground, but by then the bike was leaning too far over to be able to hold it up, and the bike and I went over onto the ground.

Nothing broken. Only injury was an ego bruise.

The other trap I have nearly fallen victim of, is back peddling the bike out of a flat parking spot, my foot hitting a small blob of oil and the foot skidding forward under back-peddling pressure - phew! Nearly dropped it, the adrenaline rush saved me I reckon.

I parked on gravel at a cafe carpark and when I tried to back out of the spot, my feet were peddling like mad on the loose gravel and I was getting nowhere!! Luckily someone's Grandad gave me a shove so I could be on my way...... the shame of it!

I always wondered why the tutor at the BHS said never put your foot down while the bike's still moving. Foot down @ complete stop, not when it's moving.

Bike was still moving a bit too fast, I put my foot down anyway. Sharp pain went all the way up my leg and bike was about to tip over so I had to ignore the pain and put my foot down.
