A mate of mine used to swear that he got a blowey from this particular girl everytime he did one. He said it was cheaper than paying for it.

Burnouts were invented for the rush factor. I love watching burnouts, love the smell...something about a burnout just gets me excited. Car, bike who cares...it's a fun factor thing. I remember a day my son in his RX7 and his mate in another parked up in our drive and both got the burnout on...was awesome. House stunk for a few days, fire brigade arrived and the rubber is still on the drive...I get a grin every time I walk down the drive and remember that day.

Well now, that is difficult to explain, but I do recall it seasons BBQ's at our place really well

And how hard was it to enforce the be responsible parental message to the teenagers afterwards. Actually I think the kids simply thought that they had better set an example to us really

Burnouts cause the rubber to expand thereby contracting any punctures allowing you to get to the tyre shop

I think the question should be why not do burnouts. The smell is addictive.

You are a hoon What an example to the younger generation.

    BTW:
Can a burn out be done in an unmodifed car - how do you get it started and control it.
What is the technic on a bike to set up a burn out?
    Here for the ride.

The "example" to the younger generation was the burn-out was done on private property not on a public road. Burnout was in (as much as possible) a controlled environment with safety of all those in the vicinity taken into consideration.

Spectators were not placed in any danger...we all stood on the varandah. Not liike the recent incident in the United States where a truck plowed into the spectators...their safety was in no way thought of.

What perfect timing....just changed my avatar to an old pic a mate took of me doing a 340kph burnout on my old ZX12. You haven't lived till you've done a big assed burnout.

btw, I'll pop up in the morning Maha, and finish that 'c' for ya, and see how close the 10 can get to the 12's record. 6am ok?

Apparantley our 2010 Hiace diesel work van does amazing line lock burnouts. Right into 4th gear I've heard.

On the bike, it's a balance of front brake, twist of throttle, clutch out. Weight over the bars. Watch the front doesn't lift, or you're moving forward. Quickly.

I don't see cruiser riders doing this and after seeing some burnout vids on our vids section...what is the purpose of a burnout, other than making alot of smelly burnt rubber smoke and a skid mark on the road? Is there some functionality to it in terms of tires sticking to the road more or something?

I guess most easily put, Because you can! I see lots of guys on all sorts of bikes do it, and some usually regret it when they have to rock up to buy a new tyre.....
I usually do em around sale time, just before handover or trade in lol....

Good to know. The tire manufacturers must love you all very much, I guess if your tires are on their last leg so to speak, its a good way to give them a happy death.
