15 Years. RIP John Britten (Sunday 5 September 2010)

I was browsing through my book collection, and picked up "Dare to Dream" The John Brittten story. Ahhh, the memories. Flicking through the pages, and came to the startling realisation, that on Sunday 5 September, it will be 15 years since he passed. OMG.
Seems like just a couple of years ago, when we heard the news. Where has time gone?

Makes you wonder what radical new designs, that he would have come up with. And how far the V1000 could have gone. Imagine, there could have been, a NZ designed bike racing in WSBK, taking it too the Aprillia's, and others. Fark...

15 years.. wow.. time sure flies...

I went to his funeral in ChCh.. I remember the road down the middle of Hagley Park was lined from one end to the other, both sides with bikes! We followed the procession into town & parked on the square. There were hundreds of bikes & thousands of people... was a very moving & emotional day

A truely brilliant man!!

It had been my wish since watching the Britten at Ruapuna in 93.. (on the back wheel down the straight passing everyone.. ) that if I ever fund out I was sick (terminal like).. it would be my wish to get to ride one round the track!

I too watched the Britten at Ruapuna - absolutely magnificient and a tribute to an extremely talented person.

I remember Stroudy giving Robert Holden the learn at Manfield for the '92 Superbikes in BEARS on it... was one of its first races

I then had the pleasure to meet the man at the Easter show in 95 where they had the bike on display... Still got a signed poster by him and Stroudy too

May the legend live on.

Great guy,farkin cancer sux eh.

Was with a mate at the dorkland viaduct in Feb 2000,we went into NZ tent and the kiwi 3 cylinder gp bike,and others were on display,and lo and behold a guy asked us if we could give a lift with a bike getting it onto the stage.Yep we will,show the way,well stuff me the bike was the mighty v twin,to be up close was great.
