I hear that - been through a few, nothing like this (and, no, I am not old enough to have been an eyewitness in Napier....)

Pleased we made it out to Amberley to meet up.... we didn't even get to see this message... lucky flukeEnjoyed the ride, and great to meet your delicious new machine!
Found an ole TV and watching the news about the quake.... had no idea the damage was so bad! So pleased to be among the lucky ones that have not had our lives upheaved! Another full week off Uni is not so cool though...![]()
LIFE! It's what you make it !![]()
Yes I feel a little bit guilty now. Considering we are so close to Darfield out here compared to the city. Thought that is was being a bit sensationalised.
But... it was a great ride and a beautiful day to be out. Really happy with the new bike.
I hope all the city KBers and there families are unscathed or a least safe and sound.
These aren't the bikes we're looking for....
my bike took a tumble![]()
We weedled our way across town but could not get to Burger King, and did not know if anyone was meeting there still... we headed to Marshlands road to wait and see if anyone showed, then decided to head to Amberley as we had an idea we may be able to catch The Hornet, (with identity confusion) there, which we did.
We went out through Scargill... leaving the cracks in the roads behind us as we got out of the town/Kaiapoi area. The road was really good, and the weather was fantastic... it was easy to leave the thoughts of the carnage in town behind.
Greta pub was as accomodating as always...and we headed for home with the company of a fellow rider... on the Black GS1400 (sorry, can't remember your name mate). It was great to get out and about today as I have been making the most of my week off, clocking up the 'K's, just incase i have to send it back to the shop!! lol
By the way Mr Hornet.... very nice looking pipes on your Predator!!
A few pics.![]()

nah peeteey, found my bike at about 5am this morning. the right brake lever is bent pretty weird, right foot peg is bent. handle bars may slightly be bent but it might just be me being fussy.
it seems like the govt is going to be covering peoples excess on earthquake damage. (dont quote me on that). but i dont think my damage is going to cost as much as my excess will.
Not sure how to add a link, but if you haven't already, go here to see what the dedicated folks at Ecan Emergency Management have to say:

Ditto with the damage here - car vs bike in the garage, but bike is 3rd party only (so no EQC premium AFAIK) and the car is with AMI, who have their "$500 excess within 100m of your home so you must use a garage" approach, so we'll be up for that.
BUT - **big**, enormous, planet-sized "but" - we're griping about peanuts compared to those who've lost houses (and with some even the land itself might be banned for a rebuild I'd guess, given the liquefaction/instability)... all sympathy to them, I hope they can cope and try it keep it positive; in some cases, I think whole suburbs may end up ceasing to exist as we have known them.
As I always say - and try to mean it - take care, everyone.

So Gareth what was it you said about MaxF's "Funky ass curves"? - God, now I'm worried...
Hmmm fun - have a look at http://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/...nt_quakes.html - all top 30 are Canterbury, looks like they're averaging around 4 - if it stays at the gentle swaying I'll be happy (but must admit it has to be a severe PITA for all the people involved in the recovery/stabilization efforts too... hope they have a big damn civic street party in thanks to all those people putting in the extra mile when this is all said & done!!)
