    What's a 2006 RMZ-250 like?

Looking at getting a 2006 RMZ, just wondering if there are any problems I need to look out for when testing one out?

Decided to get back into dirt riding after stopping a couple of years ago...just need to sell the R1 and its dirt bike time again!

    If you want to get a 250f get a kxf/crf/yzf 06+, or rmz 07+
They are much better bikes from here on in, just make sure they've been maintained properly.

    Might reconsider the Suzuki?

Looks like they have a potential fault. Not sure which year(s) it effects though.

Would love a KXF (my fav), but looking in the $3k range...and they all seem to be over the $4k

the 07 RMZ is tottally different form the 06

the 06 was the last of them made by kawasaki, which is basically of the same as the 05 KX250F and RMZ250,

they are good bikes, they were speicaled at a pretty good price and plenty were sold, parts are easy and plentyfull to get and since both kawaski and suzuki parts do them they are compritive price, they are good bikes and you can pick them up for a good price

So the KXF would have the same problem as the RMZ regarding that case cracking as posted above?

My riding mate had an 05 kx-f, so essentially the rmz's twin sister. Widely regarded by those in the know as the worst 250f mx bike ever built... but his was abused for 3 years, serviced once (oil changes occassionally), chucked at the scenery lots and never developed any serious problems.

I rode it plenty of times and I can't say I was ever disappointed with with the handling, braking or power but I'm an average rider at best, so fecked if I could really tell between an 06 or an 07 rmz. Didn't pop wheelies like my RM, but didn't regularly try and kill my like my RM either.

That would have been a one off incident, wouldn't read to much in to that.
If your a wannabe weekend warrior like me, they are a dam good bike. and will serve you
    well.

Most important thing, and that goes with all bikes, is keeping up with the maintance.

Yep, just a weekend warrior eh.

Had a CR250 before, loved the power of it (I'm a big guy so need a bit just to get me going), but didn't like the on/off power delivery...always thought I would have been able to ride my old KDX220 way faster around woodhill then the CR just because I knew where/when the power was. Hence I'm going for the 250f this time.

Ok...think I will go with the RMZ250, looks like I can pick up one cheaper then some of the other brands, and sound like they will do the job for me.
