95 fzr1000

Hey, I'm looking at 95 FZR1000 on TM, however the owner has only put 700kms on it in two and half years of ownership! What problems, if any, would this potentially cause? He claims to have done short rides to keep the fuel lines ok etc.

I'd have a close look at the following.

Brake calliper pistons.
Wheel bearings.
Shock linkage bearings/bushes.
There's a chance the fork seals will begin to weep after a decent ride
Carb bowls varnishing from extended periods of stale fuel fumes
Cables and the like might need a lube
Battery is more than likely toast unless it's been on a stabilizer or the like.
Tyres may be perished.

All in all, fuck all and certainly nothing major. If it'd been sitting with no oil in it, out in the rain for all that time I'd be a little concerned.

As above but that can be saifdfor any 2nd hand bike.

He's a bit ambitious on the price.
Why not consider the 97 Thunderace for not too much more?

Yeah I had one of these, a silver and deep red '02. Was a great bike but I didn;t find it as comfortable that dudes making it out to be but that's just me, they were touted as be a comfortable sports bike so...
And you are right, I though it did a lot of things right and bugger all wrong, interesting to see this one has a steering damper though..

I think with any bike you hqve to be prepared to bugger around with seating position (rearsets, seat padding etc) but then as a chap with access to lots o lovely workshop gear I would feel that way!

Old Fizzers are still great bikes.
When i brought my 92 it had 7700km on it. When i sold it it had 87000km. Then it did another 20000km before being throun into a bridge. It was rebuilt naced and as far as i know its still getting thrashed around Dn.
The motors are almost unstopable. the rear suspension will be fine with a quick grease of the linkages. If i was looking for a lower cost blaster that could still hustle the modern bikes, carry myself and the misses to rallys, do 250kmh whenever i wanted and still be able to commute to work on monday then these would be at the top of my list.

They were the power house in their time, however it was pot luck if you got a good one.My one had many problems, 1. the clutch decided to leave through the cover ,making its escape all over the road. 2. the front fork seals just would not seal, even after several new seals. 3. every year the front brake calipers would stick, 4.It loves to eat your licence.
