When I looked at the OP I thought, "Hell NO!" Then I saw the picture of the 7R....

To own something like that you either need to be an expert mechanic or independently wealthy though. I'm neither.

Well you have to even the playing field. So I guess the statement is valid.

Another 5 to 10 years the list expands fast.
30 years seems a bit harsh and must be up the top end of years to wait for vintage classification compared with other countries.

From memory every one I knew as a teen had road legal Honda xl's of nearly every cc and condition, I'm not sure if its the bike I'm fond of or the fun we had with them though.

What do you want it for and how much pain are you willing to put up with?

Most late 60's bikes can be pretty good but its usually up to you to make em good again ;-)

Triumph 650's are a damn good choice BUT be careful, there are some dreadful wrecks being offered as good runners etc....

Is it 30 years or 40 years for vintage rego?
If 30, my GS1100G will qualify in 2012 - and its going to tale that long to get it going again.
otherwise, well it can wait a bit longer.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Hmmmmm I wonder if you could just get a newish bike, scrape all the name and stuff off it, and rego it as old.

    e.g. the 1967 Hillman 500 (GB500)

or put some copper piping in it etc steampunk it.

    e.g. the 1935 Davidson 250 (TU250)

.......the mind does wander on to such possibilities. We should do this to to Frosty's GN!!!!

Yeah I have seen that one on trademe...it's in good nic, and would leave something like that as stock standard. There is another cb500 on trademe that has had the cafe treatment.

For me if I was going to cafe a CB it would have to be the CB400 sport or a CB350/360
The twins do look better as a cafe compared to an IL4 (imho)
