    Very cheap panniers

G'day - I seem to remember that there was a thread about these - I can seem to find the bloody thing! What was the verdict? Cheap - will last till your first "off" seems to ring a bell - anybody using them? $80 you can't really go wrong???

    Wink Fast Enough

Haven't looked at these carefully, in the flesh, but they are for push bikes and designed to clip onto the rail so you would need to fabricate something for your KLR, unless you plan to use them on a push bike. By the time you pissed about getting something suitable to work as a strap, you could have bought these

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-320158192.htm

    or these

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-319607949.htm

    or these

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-319806341.htm

    or even these

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-321036814.htm

But seriously, I think they would do the job but may be a bit lightweight for road speed, even a KLR

Whatever strapping you fabricated would need to stop them flying off the bike as that is really annoying

    Cheers

I suspect the bicycle ones might struggle a bit to hang on, and wouldn't cope very well with an off.

I've got a set of the oxford ones like in the last trademe link, for only $59 more ($49 if you allow for the torpedo7 shipping cost) they're going to do the job much better and last a hell of a lot longer.

I,d vouch for the oxford soft bags.I rode all the way to istanbul and back from Amsterdam on my VFR and thay are the dogs danglies. Carried on using them while I contracted around Europe, I will use them on my xt600 as they won,t break your ankles when you have an off......

The Route 7 panny bags are excellent for light adventure work.
They are generous in storage, are very water proof, with the dry bag folding system, and the cover top. (we rode through very heavy rain going to the Naki ride, and not a drop entered.
The two top clips have two size options via an insert, (about 10mm and 16mm).
The bottom latch is also good.
They are plastic, so might break in a heavy fall, or not.
I rate them for gravel and road work, but not serious single track work.
Make a mounting system and enjoy.

edit. Oh, and speed wise, they never moved at over 130km/h.
(cause of my awesome bracket skills may i hasten to add)

    do they flush mount?

doesn't the ball cock use up lots of space (although would be highly sought after by dr650 riders)?

Ventura makes a perfectly good set of soft pannier bags - have used mine for ages & they still holding up well. Not sure of current pricing, but was nowhere near the high end of the price range when I bought mine

From my experience getting any soft luggage securely & conveniently fitted onto any bike is going to require some messing around with straps, clips & probably some sort of rack. I'd rate the Torpedo7 bags as way better for adv use than those moto-dry ones having seen both.

When I build a rat bike it is so gunna have toilet cistern panniers!

    Cheers
