    XL1200X Forty-Eight

    XL1200X Forty-Eight

Spied one today at Rolling Thunder.

You sir are a spunky looking ride.

It may have the smallest fuel tank on any litre plus bike - but the suspenders are so slammed I suspect you'll want a stretch once the fuel light comes on.

I think I'll add the 48 to my Lotto-win garage list.

    Side note:

You can buy a new 883 Sporty for $13,225, 1200's are a bit over $16k. Rideaway prices.
Now essentially they are the same other than paint, style and various different cool bits between models. Sure the 1200 has bigger pistons. But there should not be a 3k difference. Marketing I guess.

No. It's called supply and demand, not marketing.

    Vampirella's Dad says.........................

Or you could get a brand new Buell XB12ss for 13,600 ride away with the 1200 sporty engine that puts out 20-30 more HP than the one in the 48

Sorry Daisy I will sign up soon

    True.

And oddly enough I've be pretty public on KB bitching about desirable bikes that could do with a bit more 'go' in the engine department.

Strangely enough I don't consider that a issue on the 48.

I suspect that is due to the fact I really have no performance expectations out of it in relationship to the engine.

I do however (in the event I ever ride one) expect to be prying bikini clad, buxton young women off it every time it gets parked in a public place - which also makes me wonder just where those bikini clad women are hanging out when the 48 is not there. Chicks eh!

It is quite possible that I require counseling, after all I own a Honda and appear to have closet desires for a Harley.

There is a competition between the ozzie and nz dealers to modify a 48 using harley parts, but you can modify the hd parts they have to be done by the 15th of this mth and then they will be posted on the hd website for people to vote on (vote for our bike wellington m/c lol) I have just picked up our powdercoating tonite and we just need a couple of other bits to finish its starting to look pretty cool, there is a budget to keep to but we have tried to use stuff that was lying around work and modify I will post pic's when we have finished hopefully by the end of next week.

    Sorry Vapirella's dad.

I like both Buells and HDs and can't see the same buyer even considering one or the other.

48 is the best look sporty yet. I want a bike that looks almost the same but with a big block please HD.

I'd just about agree but I'd want a decent sized fuel tank

It reminds me of the old XLX 61
"If you can make black marks on a straight from the time you turn out of a corner until the braking point of the next turn, then you have enough power."

The Rolling Thunder custom 48 is nearly finished.

We will be posting on our Facebook page, our YouTube Channel, our website, and the dedicated HD competition website over the next two weeks.

Funny you mentioned bikini clad women.

We are in the middle of running a 5 week bikini competion for girls to be in our upcoming bikini bike calender featuring the 2011 HD range, last night we ran the 2nd Heat with 3 of the 9 girls moving on to the final.

The overall winner will get the cover shot with our custom 48.

We're going with an old aviation warbird theme.

Putting real rivets in a peanut petrol tank has been interesting.

We're calling it "The Bomber" and(once finished) it will be in our shop, down at the Iconic during the Rolling Thunder Bikini Competition, and at our NZ Biketoberfest at the Ruapuna Drags on Friday night the 29th and during the Manchester Street closure on Saturday the 30th if you're interested in checking it out.

There will also be the 2011 HD range to demo in the days leading up to and during our NZ Biketoberfest....it should include the 48 if you're keen for a ride.

We may even need a few volunteers to drive the 2011 bikes to/from Christchurch landmarks for the bikini calender photo shoots.

    Good luck with your bike!

I've heard about, but not seen, the HDA entry and R&S's theme bike.

I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.....it's gonna be good.

As I get older, Harleys are actually starting to appeal to me now. Must be from owning a pushrod twin for the last few years.
Yup I like the look of the "48".

I did not know about the 48 contest! Sounds very cool.

I'll check out the RT bike and web for the others.

A bloody good idea by Harley too

Biketober in CHCH - heck it must be a year since the ACC blow-up!
