If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!
No it's just hearsay according to Grubber

the only justification for being stopped by a lor enforcement official is if they believe on reasonable grounds, you have done something wrong. State sanctioned trolling and fishing expeditions are completely wrong in my view. Particularly if targeted at a selection of the populationQUOTE]
Part of me (the enraged biker part!) agrees with ya mate but another part of me thinks about the continued carnage that happens on the Coro loop and is inclined to say "hey can ya blame them?"... if this puts people off riding the loop then hopefully a few more of us will survive the summer.
Once summer rolls around I tend to avoid that stretch of road cos I am not into sharing my piece of tarmac paradise with heaps of cars and worse, heaps of motorcyclists out to prove they are the next MotoGP champ.

Whoa I have a stalker! So I come on this site asking for some help and advice and you take that as a chance to hurl abuse? All I suggested is that people calm down, and that 5 mins of their weekend is not a big deal.
My bike has a current WOF and is maintained well, I'm just not sure of how hard the shocks should be. I'll be working on them soon.
No wonder the cops pull over motorcyclists, I think the asshole:nice guy ratio is about 5:1. Or maybe that's just on this website?

I sort of agree that we are our own worst enemies, particularly as regards PR. As an example, my business partner has a holiday house in Akaroa, and every Monday over summer he rants about "bloody motorcyclists and "Temporary NZ'ers" because he drives over there and gets passed (where HE cant see, but you can quite safely on a bike, particularly at the sedate speed he travels).
One of the big reasons I switched to a more laid back style of bike for the road: get the hell out of the way of the hordes of numpties on the road. When I did my little Hilltop - Pigeon Bay - Purau - Diamond Harbour - home loop on Saturday, on the middle part I saw two cars. busy from Diamond harbour through I will grant.

So no?
Very high and mighty of you.
Note: bikes are like guns and dogs. quite often its 99% owner when it hits the news.
Your a noob, so you don't quite understand what 'unsafe' is. Which means you in the same boat as most of the cops whom did this. Listen to what others on here have to say - you might learn something.
Even scummy has had a perfect safe yet illegal ride on one of his bikes.

So I spose you lot whinge when truck's are "targeted" and the drivers operating overweight vehicles/have incomplete logbook details/spill effulent illegally/generally endangering other road users get fined? We have truck stops as there has been a risk identified for HT drivers and other roadusers. Same goes for us, 19 out of 54 is 19 c*cks making the rest of us look bad.
I think what they are referring to as non compliant is the easy black and white stuff ie - riders outside their licence limitations/no WOF/no Reg etc
The whole riding with no Reg thing is another topic already well discussed. The fact is that it is the law, if you don't like it and ride illegally expect a fine if you get caught and don't go throwing your toys. I don't necessarily agree with it and the ACC levy, let alone every other law out there but if I want to avoid fines/jail that's the way it is.
Good luck with your crusade...in the meantime I'll be out enjoying some of the best roads the country has to offer.
No thanks. I've read plenty of motorbike safety & technique books, and I practice at safe speeds. I've been driving defensively for 12 years with not one incident, and riding for 1. I'm capable of maintaining my bike. I'm not that keen on having a crash any time soon, and I've got no beef with the police. Seems the only thing I'd learn on here is how to give the cops attitude...
whinge is the wrong word there.
Would you find it acceptable if the targeting was based on race, religion or gender? If not, why not?
How is "targeting" based on any criteria other than a lor officers reasonable opinion that a lor might be broken unreasonable?. compliance/noncompliance with the lor is the applicable test, surely?.
As to your truck example Let me give you an example: trusts and trustees: as a "professional" trustee, I am held to a higher standard when looking after your money than your Aunty Enid would be, if she and I were the trustees of your trust. I dont have a problem with it: I hold myself out as being competent in the area, I did exams and shit, and Ive been doing it for a while now, relatively successfully. Whereas Aunty might just be a placeholder, or fronted the money, or be known in all the boroughs as being frugal. If we invested all your money in some dodgy scheme (say finance company debentures, about 18 months ago) then conceivably I would be sued, but she would not, based on the fact that I should have known better: i.e. I am held to a higher standard than her. (Ignoring the fact I have insurance as well) Luckily we invested your money on fixed interest as to half, and equities in NZ and overseas as to half, and your money is doing OK at present).
Apply that to your truck driver example: they are professionals, (and have a well funded and very vocal lobby group which tells us so, endlessly) and thus need to be held to a higher standard than recreational, or other road users (same argument goes for the po po actually): so we have to meet a MINIMUM standard, they have to meet a higher standard. And those higher standards (voluntarily assumed, but codified and enforceable) might involve compliance checking, randomly: I dont have a problem with that, frankly. But thats very different from a law abiding ordinary citizen going about their lawful business.
