Only near miss I had was 30yrs ago with a semi .22 thought I had fired 10 shots,but owner had put one up spout then added another to mag when handing to me to shoot targets,wasn't sure so when walking with mates back to hut,I said stop then fired into ground,was shaking when rifle fired,had walked about 50mts and was in front of group,but had rifle over shoulder and was safe but if I tripped who knows,afterwards thought of scenario of what ifs.Lesson learnt,remove mag and eject bolt with a semi auto,also don't add extra ammo to mag,i.e if 5 shot don't use 6 as will be loaded.

One of the 7 rules to firearems, "treat evey gun as loaded" , that Should never have happened.
Never except a loaded firearm, why fire into the ground, did you not know how to clear it?
How many mistakes were made in that one statement?

The people I'm talking about are the ones that'll chew your ear off talking about types of ammunition or go around boasting about how powerful their rifle is and what substances it'll shoot through. Some of these people don't even own a firearm, they are just infatuated with all the details.

You could change the subject to motorbikes and you would get a parallel:

I've used everything from shotguns, to handguns, to assault rifles to hunting rifles and I still call them guns.
