Ah right, I think I can see where the all the hating is coming from.
You're right, I know lots of people who own them and use them just like a tool; they take them out of their racks or safes, go shoot some free meat or cull the local possum population, then put them back and cook up some steaks. They use them as a means to an end. I wouldn't say these people are 'into' guns, the same as a mechanic who uses a screwdriver to fix a bike isn't 'into' screwdrivers.
The people I'm talking about are the ones that'll chew your ear off talking about types of ammunition or go around boasting about how powerful their rifle is and what substances it'll shoot through. Some of these people don't even own a firearm, they are just infatuated with all the details.

Can't we all just get along?![]()
I very much doubt there is too many of the above persuasion.
Getting along requires some form of sensibility and i don't see any in your comments at all.
Making generalizations about my daughters that were way off the mark, makes me think you have no idea about generally fuck all.
I'm not going to waste any more time explaining to you the whys and wherefores as i doubt you would ever get it anyway.
Think the replies you have been given should be enough to get the picture.
Trumpydom!
My reply, if i had the chance to give one initially, it is but another tragedy amongst the hunting fraternity that i have no doubt would not have been on purpose. There is senseless loss of life, and a lifetime of regret now to be had.
The hunter that took the shot was not unlike the rider or car driver that pushed his boundaries on a fast corner. He was probably as certain of what he was doing as he was reckless. There will always be a person of such elk in all walks of life, as sad as it is, this will always be the way.
Trumpydom!
I just hope this person (shooter) gets the book thrown at him and not some limp-dick slap on the wrist for what he has done.
As for those who say "he will have to live with it for the rest of his life" well, at least he has his life to continue living - not like that poor woman and her family who will now live the rest of their lives without her.

First thing when obtaining a firearms licence was what is main thing you do,I replied identify target. The arms officer was impressed, most he said would reply keep forearm pointed safely, load when ready to shoot, keep safety on etc.Basically he gave me the license on that answer,as to him showed as an 16yr old I was mature enough, that was 32yrs ago.
As a kid in scouts we went target shooting on the range,we had targets to hit,but also had to identify them as wild animal i.e rabbit, pig, deer or cat, dog, human, points off if wrong, and sunlight was in our eyes and had 15 mins to shoot 10 rounds, all of us hita wrong target from 50mt with .22,but mostly due to time running out, happy to say I never hit human, but as a 12 yr old was then wary of human figure(figures were sitting, crouching etc).
Think the best thing is do the basics, that is unload when travelling, barrel facing safe, never rely on safety, identify, identify target, remember target zone, better to miss than hit wrong target. And although never seen a deer when hunting, the target would have to be clear for me to fire.

While this is a tragic event, and the hunter should face the consequences of his stupidity, the matter needs to be kept in perspective.
It is no different to a speeding motorist hitting and killing someone. An illegal and stupid action, which results in the unintended death of another human being.
Funnily enough, when a speeding or drunk motorist kills someone, there is no hysterical demand for the removal of vehicles from society, and no queue of idiots throwing insulting generalisations at anyone who owns a vehicle. Go figure...

This was not an accident, he should not get manslaughter, he should get murder 1. Any hunter who does not fully identify their target before shooting is breaking one of the cardinal rules of shooting/hunting. There is no excuse for this at all, an innocent person is dead because some dumb shit was too stupid/lazy to identify what he was shooting at. FYI - I am a keen hunter/deer stalker with quite a few guns, not some liberal lefty.
An entirely preventable incident.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.
It takes a big man to cry...and an even bigger man to laugh at that man.
One would think though, that being a learner you would be trying to be a safe as possible right from the start. Who friggin knows what was going on this fella's head. I can't really explain it to be honest. No clear target, no shot! Pretty simple really. Tend to let mine stand up for full identification to be fair. Also gives them a sporting chance too. Bit like the duck shooting.
Trumpydom!
That's the point think,he didn't very sad result.
Only near miss I had was 30yrs ago with a semi .22 thought I had fired 10 shots, but owner had put one up spout then added another to mag when handing to me to shoot targets, wasn't sure so when walking with mates back to hut,I said stop then fired into ground, was shaking when rifle fired, had walked about 50mts and was in front of group, but had rifle over shoulder and was safe but if I tripped who knows, afterwards thought of scenario of what ifs.Lesson learnt, remove mag and eject bolt with a semi auto, also don't add extra ammo to mag,i.e if 5 shot don't use 6 as will be loaded.
