What's the Yamaha version of the SV1000s?

I'd really want a R1 but I will have to control my urges and get a more sensible bike, especially as how it will be used for commuting to work.

With that said, whats the model down from the R1, something similar to the Sv1000s but hopefully not as ugly?

What are the other models from different manufacturers that are similar to the Sv?

FZ1, as said above. The are also bringing in the FZ8S or FZ8N. It's going to be more of an 'all rounder' I think, not quite as small as the r6, or new xj6 (diversion looking) one/fz6.

No real Yamaha equivalent to the SV1000 in terms of a v-twin, closest would be the FZ1/FZS1000 as mentioned above, if you're after a semi naked bike. Same engine but retuned for flatter torque curve and less peak horsepower. I looked at buying one but my knees didn't like the riding position.

Just one of those personal fit things, the placement of the pegs meant my slightly iffy knees didn't like the position they were in. Otherwise the riding position was pretty good, and easy to fit different bars to if you want to tweak it in that department.

Yep the Fazer is The Yamaha Naked. Comes in a partially faired version, that i have or a Naked version.
Good all round bike, I commute 70km daily, and can keep up with me mates on their sports bikes on the weekend. Only problem ive found is the ground clearance, but changing my riding style, hanging off the side more, when giving it a fistful, or on the track, has reduced this problem.
Good reliable engine, 2003 R1, so well sorted mechanically, about 130hp at the wheel. Good Hooligan Bike or a comfy commuter, let your right wrist decide.

Since all your taste is in your mouth, then the only V twin that Yamaha does will be the MT01 but at 1800cc you better have big balls and a bigger wallet as they aren't cheap! As your coming off a Hyosung 250, I'd recommend riding lessons at a trackday before taking on a R1 or similar as you'll wind up as an organ donor or hood ornament before long!
Thought for the day: Some people are like Slinkies - not really good for anything but they're funny when they're pushed down the stairs. Also: Who picks up guide dog shit?
