Nope not embarrased to say what my motivation for hunting is at all, simple really, when meat hunting it was for the $, the Govt didn't have to pay me tail rates nor a wage, these days it is to put meat on my table to enjoy, to do that I have to kill with a firearm (venison) or chase piggies with the mutts then if too big will have to be shot, no good poking a fucken stick at it....You enjoy riding your bike others get the same kick out of going into the bush for the solitude piece and quiet and maybe hopefully bring back some meat for their table...As for the dick that shot the young Lass I still shake my head with the words 'FUCK ME' what a prize cunt

Your mistake is to use this thread, which is about a gun-toting moron, to lump all true hunters in the same basket as him - and then expect a sympathetic response.
The Hunter / Killer instinct is part of the human evolutionary psyche. A single generation of latte-sipping PC society will not undo four million years of human instinct.
Like it or not, that instinct is part of all of us. It is expressed in many strange ways in our oddly castrated society - whether that be through a constant diet of violent computer games, or a more detached and observational aggression through violent TV shows and a never-ending stream of antagonistic "humiliation and elimination" reality shows. The consumers of such modern-day outlets would no doubt consider themselves more "civilised" than hunters - I beg to differ.
There is a "thrill" associated with the hunt - and also the kill. But there is seldom "pleasure" in the kill. Most hunters will strive to cause the least amount of suffering to an animal, and will often admit to disliking that small part of the process.
By far the vast majority of hunting in NZ is for introduced "pest" animals - most notably the humble rabbit and possum. Their numbers HAVE to be controlled, and hunters know that a swift death by bullet is by far the most humane method of culling, rather than an agonised death by poisoning. Unfortunately the latte-swillers would disagree.
Most hunters are true ecologists. When hunting, they spend most of their time watching, learning, and understanding. They understand that compassion and empathy is not incompatible with hunting and killing, but instead learn to understand such conflicts as being part of our interaction with the natural world. The scorn and hatred of the hypocritical city-living "greenies" means little when you're out there.
From my perspective, a hunter really understands the value of life, and is invariably the better person for it.
You keep enjoying your burgers, secure in the knowledge that (hopefully) no-one enjoyed themselves in putting that meat before you.
As others have pointed out, it is all but impossible to put this into words - just like it's impossible to explain to a non-biker why the discomforts and risks of motorcycling are worth it. They don't understand, so they don't get it.
But we know differently - and the scorn of others means little.
Can I believe the magic of your size... (The Shirelles)
A friend of mine was telling about an experiment that was carried out.
A large piece of plywood was placed in the bush with two marbles glued to it.
It ended up with countless bullet holes left in the plywood.
What the fuck did those people think they were shooting at?
I don't understand sitting in front of a TV playing video games for hours on end either but i don't force that opinion on others.
Not sure if i would ever call hunting a sport as such but more of a game of odds and stealth. Not sure any true hunter would particularly take any great buzz in the kill but more the chase.
Anyway i doubt someone like yourself will ever get it cause your from more the other side of the fence. You don't mind eating it as long as you have no idea where it came from.
Trumpydom!
Katman opened with 'Dumb Fucks With Guns'.
Grasshopper lobbed in "people who are into guns are immature 'tards..."
How can we disagree with that?
How also can we disagree with Virago at post #108, backing up both points clearly and eloquently in my mind - vis (from words anyhow) whom I'd be happy seeing at the non pointy end.
Read the Invisible Gorilla to find out how even you could be confused as to whether something was a possum or a deer.
Those that can't recognise the flaw in our nature, and also the need to skip a shot (like missing an overtake) shouldn't own a weapon/motorcycle.
Them should stick to spearing elk.
So the muppet that raved to me about the best spots for pig hunting in Te Akau, (while clumsly hiding his pot pipe from me n kanny) is a typical hunter?
He was decked out in camo gear, while white baiting.
No shit. Ask Kanny. She is as honest as all hell.
Word is the muppet was spot lighting from near a main rd, illegally on Doc land.
Guess he can't be classed as a hunter, as they never cross fences into private land/out of bound areas.........................
Easy Tiger...
I am starting to take offence with your tone. Which opinion have I forced upon others? How would you know what side of the fence I'm on? And what would you know if I eat "it" at all. Maybe because I do know where "it" comes from.
Oh, and I do get it. Because I've done it. I just chose not to do it anymore, unless circumstances dictate. I've hunted all sorts of game...
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
No tone there Tiger. Just a statement. Question...why did you do it before and why don't you now?
You are obviously on the opposite of the fence to me...otherwise i would think we would be agreeing in some form or another.
To be more specific...the opinion i speak of is the previous poster who seems to think that anyone who is remotely involved with hunting of any kind has some serious head problems.
All seriousness, if he met me anywhere he would never know what i did for a pastime. He would see i ride a bike just as he does. Sad really.
I am certainly far from some form of mental case and i take exception to those whose opinions that are different to mine forcing that as an option simply because i chose a different path in life.
Trumpydom!
