I grew up hunting waterfowl in the wetlands, I dislike the taste and never ate it, but continued to shoot them. What was the attraction? Because it was fun, end of story.

It's fun to shoot something that is trying to run away.

So what kind of buzz was he on to just kill some random living thing he had no idea what it was?

It's quite simple; he didn't respect his prey. If he did, he would have wanted to kill it, not risk maiming it, and to do that requires taking aim only at parts of the animal that will ensure death.

He wasn't a hunter, he was a murderer, and he murdered that woman. End of story.
