Had a wee off-road excursion on the way home tonight.
Came into a corner down the hill probably a little faster than I would have liked and locked up the rear wheel. Nothing that hasn't happened before but this time I freaked out and didn't let go of the rear brake. Net result was that the bike didn't go around the corner and I ended up heading straight for the hill side.
Luckily I stopped just short of colliding with the hill but ended up in deep mud just of the edge of the road. Couldn't hold the bike up in that and ended up laying it on its side softly in deep mud. Thank goodness for the mud being so soft as there appears to be no bent or broken bits on the bike. The mirror didn't even need readjusting.
The only damage is to my pride, can't say I have never layed a bike on its side anymore.
Anyway, picked up the bike but couldn't budge out of the mud by myself.
Luckily Bryce, John, Dave and another guy weren't far behind and gave me a hand to free the bike. Thanks guys.
John and Dave took some photos (pics or didn't happen right?) which will no doubt make their way on here soon.
Bryce is rubbing his hands together as he thinks he may have sold me some knobblies to fit on the Daytona so I can take it off-roading properly.
RIght, of to go and wash the mud of the bike to see if there is any damage to the paint at all.
He was trying out for the next Telstra Ad campaign. ( Right make wrong model )
Good to see it's only damaged pride though.
okay - just turned the page and read the rest of the posts. Glad you and your gorgeous bike are all okay Pierre. See you next week

Extremely pleased you are ok Pierre!!! Now - don't do that again ok? Hopemit hasn't knocked you too much, and you can just sleep it off with a good nights sleep.
I had a lovely ride.. and just a quick pootle back over the hill on my own afterwards. Nice and gentle on a beautiful evening. Great turn out too. Good to see the girls there![]()
Good to hear that both you and the bike are ok Pierre. Take it easy out there.
Was going to come join you tonight but the cage has broken down and needed some TLC. Unfortunately I don't have enough TLC so looks like I am going to have to put her in the garage to get sorted.![]()
I'm only wearing black until they develop something darker
We came, We listened, And in one voice we answered
BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!! BULLSHIT!!
All that theory of looking were you want to go left the brain instantly and trying to get the bike to come to a stop before hitting something took over.
You know / learn / get told that in a situation like this you need to let go of the rear brake to get control back. But there are just a few milliseconds to react. With years of experience the theory might spring into action automatically. But I have only been riding 2 1/2 years and this is my first incident and I guess panic took over. Coming to a stop without hitting anything was all that mattered at the time.
