Neither do fireworks. People with fireworks torture animals. Just like guns, guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people. Same thing goes with knives, and any other 'weapon'.

Of course, but the fact remains that this happens every year by young thugs with no concience. Same with guns and knives. Liberalise the gun/knife laws and you'll have the same here as in the US. You can always blame the people for the crime, and that is right, but these people use these means to do sickening acts. The facts also are that take away the means and you drastically reduce the incidences.

You can argue "rights" until the cows some home, doesn't alter the facts. I'd be more impressed with you as a person if you expressed disgust at the atrocity instead of just defending the right to have fireworks.

I am really disgusted by what people do to animals, but take a good look at the commercial meat industry first. Especially halal, many of those animals are bled to death without being stunned first, and that is seen as being perfectly acceptable by most countries. I could post a link here to prove my case if you wanted me to.

Fair enough and kudos for that. There are many practices in this world that disgust me, and includes man's inhumanity to man as well as animal. These little thugs should be paraded through the streets and shamed in public, but I can see the day rapidly approaching when the authorities in NZ have simply had a gutsful of burning schools and tortured animals and attacks on other kids and ban fireworks altogether.

As the years go by, we are seeing an alarming increase in incidents of mindless violence by an increasing population in the younger demographic with no conscience and no fellow-feeling. These young people are devoid of morals and basic humanity.

Do it..I will post mine http://www.halaljournal.com/article/...mane-slaughter

There will probably be many reports arguing both sides of that story but in the end it has nothing to do with the torture of animals with fireworks.

I actually own a dog and a cat, and I take very good care of them. They both get their annual vet checkups and are both in excellent health, so don't think that I go around abusing animals.

I didn't think for a second that you would, I'm referring to what is happening in our communities.

I'd be staggered if any KB'r would so much as consider such a thing!

It's about time the government seriously started cracking down on animal cruelty.

You mean like directing the courts to start making the punishment fit the crime? What a novel idea!

Long overdue as far as I'm concerned.

    I found the video.

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
    gunpowder, treason and plot,
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
    should ever be forgot.
    Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
    'twas his intent
to blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below,
    Poor old England to overthrow:
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, make the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!
    Hip hip hoorah!
