KTM 990 owners: A small disaster for me

Well at the time it was big. But time heals all wounds. Just had my 990 serviced in cromwell by keith(going well Keith). Rode home to queenstown, no drama. Until i get off the bike.Where the hell is my top box? F$#K its gone.And I am so anal when I lock it into place too! Ride back to Cromwell scanning for it in the road side, make a few calls, back to Queenstown. To the Police station to fill out a form.
What a shitter! Not covered by contents insurance($200 excess) as it was on bike at the time. My Bike insurance will cover it but its a $600 excess.
Are there any KTM 990 owners that want to sell a factory plastic 42L top box to me.Its a bloody handy piece of kit!

Depending on how it attaches, the KTM boxes are Givi OEM. If you provide a shot of the top plate, I can show you what Givi boxes would mate to the plate.

THREE TIMES, I have failed to secure the tail bag onto my bike. Three times it has fallen off. And, through some miracle, three times I have found it again...

I'm after just a plate for an older BMW topbox, which are Givi also.

So if you end up with a complete new setup and the plate fits my older box I may take it off your hands, provided you're not asking a mint for it of course.

Depending on the box, you're probably after the E250 universal fitment plate

There are essentially two types of fitment for topboxes in the Givi range. Either the box has hooks or the plate does. Generally boxes that have hooks are for scooters (and smaller bikes), while the boxes with cut outs for hooks are for bigger bikes and the boxes are bigger (E460, E52, E55 etc)

uh... yeah, I have a bit of Givi luggage. Between my boss and I, we have 3x E21 panniers, 2x E460 cases, 3x E52 Maxias and 1x E55 Maxia.

I want to replace it with the factory plastic top box if I can. Alot of people call them Gobi boxes. They are made by Hepco and becker but branded as KTM.

Go back to your Insurance company. Its called luggage and is covered by house and contents. They no doubt will argue (its what Insurance companies do) but if you tip the bike over and try to claim the topbox as part of the claim then!!! they will tell "you its luggage mate"

Yeah, I had a big chat with them. Don't you worry. They openly say if it was for example sitting in the garage and stolen they would cover it under contents insurance. BUT because it was attached to the bike and used how it was designed to be used ... no cover. I asked why they replaced a watch( thru my contents insurance) I lost a few years ago when I was wearing it at the time. They of course said thats different.
They then pulled out a big folder with all the rules. A hell of alot bigger than the brochure they ran me thru when starting the policy that says no motor vehicle accessories can be claimed. I will be taking this up with them.

Sometimes you have too jump pretty high to get them to do the right thing Got shown the big book once, pointed to the policy that I had in my hand and said "if it ain't in this contract that your company signed with me, then it don't exist" . The one thing you have in your favour is you are the customer and ultimately they want your business
Just so we can slag em off better, who is your insurance company?

Don't bother - they are perfectly correct.
The box is a motorcycle accessory and your watch is personal effects. Their statement about paying for it if stolen from the garage is very generous.

The "rules" they were talking about is the policy.
The policy is your contract with them, so next time you might want to read it prior to needing it.

I also know from experience that not all Insurance loss adjusters are working in "My" best interest

The squeaky wheel sydrome only works when you are right.
Otherwise it makes you look like a goit.

This item is specifically designed for a motorcycle and was lost off a motorcycle.
If you actually read the policy (any contents policy, from any company), you will see that this is the subject of a specific exclusion.

{Exclusions} motor vehicles (other than an electric wheelchair or mobility scooter, and
garden appliances), motorcycles, motor scooters, caravans, trailers, and their
spare parts and accessories

I'm all for keeping insurers honest (and I used to make a living out of doing just that, amongst other things), but this sort of internet puffery is a waste of everyones time.
