My sister in law was allowed to use phonetic spelling in her 2nd year at Intermediate in English exams. Ie if the teacher could see what they meant to spell, it was marked correct. This year at high school, after the class on average didn't pass a maths test, they were given their papers back and given an extra half an hour to correct mistakes, thus bringing the stats up.The NZ education system needs a shake up. The most hilarious thing was back when they were contemplating allowing people to write like this in school exams including English exams!!!

My niece just "failed" English. She was most put out when I pointed out that she could use facebook to practice written English rather than using whatever that language is she normally types in.The NZ education system needs a shake up. The most hilarious thing was back when they were contemplating allowing people to write like this in school exams including English exams!!!
She got a little pissy with me then I pointed out I was serious and she did a major flounce and marched off.
I pointed out to her retreating back that if she were a little more confident with English we could have had a "discussion". I think that point was lost.

Actually I typed it out normally then went back and removed most of the letters, and abbreviated the whole thing.
So it took about 4 times longer than usual.
