    Sick of Honda CBF250 already

Hi there. Bought a 2008 CBF250 when I got my licence a few weeks ago and am kind of sick of it already. I'm sure this has been covered before but what would you recommend as a bulletproof reliable fast 250 for me? Hornet, VTR or a Bandit? Something else? 5k max

250's are 250's mate. They're all going to have the same power over-all, just distributed differently.
What you should be doing is concentrating on riding skills. You're still learning alot of new things and currently you have the perfect bike to do it on.

Cheers Mattian. Thats what everyone keeps telling me but I reckon there is a lot of difference between a cbf250 that hits a hundred in 12 seconds and a vtr that does it in 5. Not wanting to ride fast necessarily but want something that will at least give me more of a buzz than the 4 wheeled shopping basket I drive to work most days (which incidentally will hit 100 in 9 secs, and yes it's a K11 March!)

If you want thrills, get an XR250l, learn to ride off road/wheelie/jump/bog your self in mud etc.
Wash it down, and commute to work.
The open road/cities/built up traffic is no place to learn about thrills. MHO

12 seconds?! Ouch... mine goes to it in 7 and I thought mine was pretty slow for a 250, which is perfect really because the fastest car I had could do it in 7 seconds also.

Why not just go for a CBR? 0-100 in 5.2. You can get them within your budget, though you wouldn't be able to go for a recent model.

Or... hit it up with an Aprilia 250 and get 4.3 seconds to 100. Though that one costs a bit more. And is filled with 2 stroke joyous lawn mower sounds.

7 seconds to 100km/h in a car? fuck that's slow.

and if your 250 takes 12 seconds, you can't ride for shit

I would not like to be a cbf250 for the whole licensing period, but to learn on for a month or so (might take more depending on ability etc)

Something with at least 2 cylinders might be good for you.

If it bought for fun, not just commuting then a twin might be fun. 4 cylinders are fun but just cost more in terms of maintenance.

Options for 2 cylinders that are reasonably new-ish: zzr, gpx, vtr, ex250, gsx, (srx?, not sure what years they are produced)

then there are the 4 cylinders ones (but I'm sure you know all about the bike options anyway.)

It's hard to believe that your bike is that slow.

Try getting someone else to ride it and tell you what they think?

There's another forum site here that talks about various 250's and their 0-100km/hr times.

    http://www.netrider.net.au/forums/ar...p/t-99779.html

Had a discussion with a local dealer about the bandit - and have been told its faster then the vtr. I see there's the gruntier 'V' version of the bandit too. Though the power comes in later while for the VTR you have at earlier on (in terms or revs).

From memory there's Honda's CBR bike that has reputation for being very fast?

Have a VTR myself - probably in similar time span to you having yours, certainly haven't even thought about being sick of it.

Only gripe I have against it - is its missing another gear when I'm going on the highway.

Hi, the bandits are cheap with alot of useable power, they are easy to maintain and will get you to 100 in 5-6seconds depending on your weight. They have a good comfortable riding posistion, i personally wouldnt go for a V model because its just another thing to go wrong and they variable valve electronics are not the cheap to fix and the power delivery is excellent anyway. I went from a gn to a bandit and they are polar oppisites, you can pick one up for around the $2200-$5000 depending on the model year and ks. Good luck, i was over the gn in about 2 weeks.
You're slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter. I asked God for a bike, but I know God doesn't work that way. So I stole a bike and asked for forgiveness.

I wanna see a 250 getting to 100k's in 5 seconds! My bloody RF doesn't do it fuck all quicker than that.

That said, an inline four 250 will be much faster than the CBF, (which is a single yeah?).

$5000 is fuckin heaps to buy a really good one, just make sure you get one than runs really smooth.
