Went up the Cobb today.Very windy at the top, the road was in gret nick, wet enough to keep the dust down. There were a few slips and trees fallen across the road, but were relatively easily negotiated. Managed to stay dry too.

I love having a company car.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

Went for a wander up Fringed Hill last night, lots of trees down up there so assume Maungatapu was/is pretty dodgy too.

Not sure if it's common knowledge but you can get topo maps for free from Linz, phuck I love maps

Thanks for the link. Me thinks the internet account is going to get a hammering getting the latest 50 and 250 series maps. I'm old fashioned with an electronic set of 260's (Maptoaster).

Yeah, I've only got 2Gb of Mobile Broadband a month...tempted to send them up an external drive as they (Linz) will copy all 100 odd Gb onto them for free!

We should see if we can find a bit of freeby GIS software then get the GeoTIFF's. Would be able to view a seamless set of imagery then. Hard drive idea sounds good too.

Tried that a few years ago with arcgis or something but the broadband of the time wasn't really up to it.

QLandkarteGT and Quantum GIS are the two that I can get for Ubuntu, both free, and they both also work with Windows. I'm going to see if I can contact Linz to see if they have any other requirements as I have a spare external HD.

I grabbed ArcGIS Explorer this morning from here and a couple of geotiffs and they loaded fine. Had to zoom in a reasonable difference to get reasonable resolution in the tiffs.

Hopefully they've updated QLandkarteGT since I used it last.

    ArcView worked OK.

    Cut out the nerdy bullshit.

I'm back from the bach & heading down the port races. nice ride thru the QC this morning - 7am & no traffic. Shit there's some carnage on the road from the floods around canvastown.

Hopefully catch up with ya down the port.

Well the port races were omce again excellent. I reckon after the beach races we may have to do a few track races in chch so we can enter in the motard class for next year.

The first corner on the start lap was insane. A couple of guys went into the hay bales. one poor fella came in far too fast, stood on his nose for about 5m then just ploghed headfirst into one. He came out alright but he must have just been shitting himself. They were doing 190 - 200 before braking.

I was really inspired by the riders' skill. The King of the Port race at the end had all the top 4 from the different classses racing together. The motard boys would come in wide into the 1st corner & the sport bikes would have to cut in past them mid corner. The track is only a couple of bike lenghths wide

The riders seemed to really enjoy it & treated the crowd to burnouts after the final lap.

I had a go with Nordies big camera & man it's a piece of work. He's only got about 3-400 pics to go thru tonite
