Anyone ever owned/ridden a ZR750 and if so whats their verdict?

Indeed Mr Nanna, in saying that it does look as if they were going for the 'proper' custon look so may have chosen to 'shave' it.

Z750...great bike however some do find them a wee bit 'buzzy' through the pegs and bars.
Depends on what you want it for I guess.

I hope its for the custom look - but it could also be due to crash damage.

If you went to that much trouble to achieve a custom look, why would you leave the pillion pegs on?

Look the bike over carefully its not easy to disguise crashes on a naked bike, take a friend to look at it and ask them to specifically look for any signs of crash damage, if you really like this bike you'll probably look straight past it yourself (I know I did once, fortunately what I missed was very minor but still pissed me off that I hadn't seen it as I was too emotionally involved)

There's a ZR750K1 (also known as Z750S) on TM at the moment. (It's advertised as a "ZR750K").

Very similar bike. The one on TM is lower K, a year newer than the one you're asking about and has fewer modifications.

It's a little more expensive - but has been there a while - maybe you can negotiate?

My unlce has the same one as on TM, he says that he likes the bike but finds the gearbox a bit 'rough' and clunky (i think that was how he described it), he said it felt like this compared to a 1200 or 1250 bandit which are as 'smooth as a sewing machine' he describes it as.

In saying that, he does like it and said it feels like it has a bit of 'character' about it. He got it for a great price too and could not say no to the deal.

I guess the old old NZ250 I had had a better feeling gearbox than my Z. But then the biggest problem with my Z's box (i.e. I don't actually think it's "bad") is the stupid kawasaki auto-select-first "feature". Hate it.

Chain adjustment and rear wheel alignment are vital for nice shifting on a Z750. Chain too slack or too tight and you'll get heaps of missed gears. Rear wheel out of whack and it will pop out of the top two gears from time to time if you don't give the lever a good shove.

The '08 was heavier and less horsepower than the previous models and the upside down forks were worse than the basic RWUs on the earlier models. Aftermarket fork springs, emulators and a decent rear shock turns them into something you can ride proper. Loik.

A pipe and freer flowing air filter gives you your mid-range back.

I had a brand new 2009 Z750. Found it generally uncomfortable on longer rides, and even worse if taking a pillion. In addition to this the suspension was WAY too soft and bouncy, even after attempting to adjust. Got rid of it in under 3 months.

The engine was nice though.

I have been considering buying either a Bandit 1250 or a z750, I am viewing a z750 in a few days time, most reviews i have read are pretty consistent re the z; cons are; hard seat, suspension is average; otherwise the bike is a real ripper. I used to own a 2001 Bandit 1200 which I liked very much, the new 1250 reviews are extremely positive, the bike is hard to fault. I will have to ride both bikes to come to a conclusion obviously but will probably opt for the Bandit as it does everything very well. Anyone else got experience on the z750 or the Bandit 1250 ??

I haven't ridden a ZR750... but HAVE ridden a 1250 Bandit. The 1250 has got an extremely smooth and torquey motor. Quite comfy, too. I would upgrade the suspension on the 1250.... mainly because I am used to very good suspension.
In my opinion... go for the 1250 Bandit
