jeez, I know it was raining heavily, but I didn't realise it was heavy enough to need a raft on the roads!

I did but I think she's moved from there. From Te A I'd go down thru the dam country and across Artimuri. Come back over the Mamakus to Okoroire, have a couple of cold ones then return via French pass. Not fast roads but heaps of corners.

    Xmas day loop

Heres a map of the loop I did on Xmas day

Awesome day for it, if you ever find yourself over in the bay region 1 road you have to look at is Middle Road, you can jump on at Havelock North & follow south through to Waipawa then onto to Waipakarau then route 52
I Used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass

That's a cool route. And you avoid all that boring shit around the Manuwatu area.

Girlfriend going for her license on Sunday. Given her two quick lessons at the uni car park across the road. She hasn't dropped my bike yet! She is getting fairly good at starting and riding around and even changing gears (never driven a manual car...well once or twice but we wont go there....). The guys at RiderSkills in Auckland will get her going good. Their bikes should be much easier for her to learn on.

Anyway seems that everyone is away or busy for the next couple of weeks so rides are off until the 16th of January when we will do a good one. probably down piopio Waitomo way, maybe via or back via the Kawhia road. Details will be discussed between now and then. The idea would be for me to shout breakfast for the group as a new years get together and head off for what will be a good 200-250km ride. Would be nice to see some new faces and new riders are more than welcome. Also be good to catch up with some of the longer serving members of the group!!

    who's keen??

    Its in the calendar
    Sunday week

Thought it would've been longer than that; the other week a couple of us did Hamilton thru Opotiki to Gisborne and around the East Cape back to Hamilton in a day - just over 960 k's, 10 hours riding, 11.5 hours all up
Lifes Just one big ride - buckle up or hang on

What bikes were you riding? Back in the late eighties, Our group, the Matamata road riders did a similar run. We headed over the Kaimais to Tga, down to Whakatane. Around the cape to Gisborne, back thru the gorge to Opotiki, over the Mamaku's.
Coming thru the gorge late afternoon was interesting. Half the corners were like riding into black holes due to the sun in our eyes. I did the trip on my XZ400 with a pillion. Three others also had pillions. Took us about 12 hours, 880k's back to Putaruru.

Is quite satisfying to complete a decent run without incident.
