Well as I said in the first post there will not be any scrutineering or similar so I can't enforce this. I'm simply promoting "best practice" in terms of preparations. Because we travel through two forestry blocks it would be prudent to carry one or as a minimum ride with someone who has one.

Might i suggest no ciggys when stopped in the at risk areas.
We had a little fire at work on break up day from a discarded ciggy butt which had been dropped almost an hour before the flames appeared.
The smoker who dropped it said "they say it happens but I thought it was just a myth".
Apparently he flicks em butts out the car window all the time, no wonder there are so many roadside fires in summer if a lot of people are doing that.
First time I'd ever actually seen it happen too, but now we know the risk is real.
I guess the bikes actually could be a risk too, heard one or two storeys of bike related fires so something about better safe than sorry and keeping the land owners thinking we're all very responsible aye.

Unless your bike being on fire is the cause of the grass catching, you ain't likely to know you started one, it'll be they guys half an hour after you dealing with it, or you dealing with the one the guy half an hour in front of you started.
Best start early, ride fast, be in front. That'll work.
Do stones bouncing off bashplates or in to each other spark enough? Have to be pretty unlucky me thinks.
I've had an extinguisher hogging space on me bike since the Capital Coast Adventure 08.![]()

i carry one all the time.. have used one up when a friends bike caught fire..... just dont start a BIGfire as its only a small one....
i also carry first aid kit to. but im not a doctor...but know how a sticky plaster works....maybe have a couple designated bikes spread through the field with these items on board....

That's turning the ride in to something it's really not, having designated bikes here n there.
Think we'd better kind a end this topic line about now as we're ultimately all responsible for ourselves on this ride.

and maybe stick a spark arrestor on if you havent got one. mine had been taken out so ive just bolted wire from a kitchen seive on and secured it with a hose clamp (this was suggested by someone the the capital coast adv ride thread and is easy enough to do just to be on the safe side)
just fitted my spark arrestor........anyway a question for the wise ones.
I've put good money into the Motard tires and hadn't given the 21 and 18's any thought. They were on the bike when brought it. they are kenda and cheng shin both about 1/3 worn hence i didnt give a second thought. I been for a blast out the river and they seemed shit but I would think not too bad considering they are a road trail compromise. Am i risking too much cheaping out on the tyre thing. The budget is tight (new chain sprockets and the other bits and bobs I've had to get as i'm a total noob to this) so would rather not have to buy new tyres untill i see if this my thing.
Its harder to lose weight than gain horsepower.
I did the northern DB with a half worn good front & shitty nogrip rear & was ok. Your call. I'd just go a bit slower ( or faster) on the knarly bits.
Myself I like th econfidence of a narrow sharp front but then again I've not raced motards. You should be right

Got any photos to satisfy my curiosity?
If you don't have the cash then probably be fine on what you have, Ryans doing it on the big KTM using E07s same as I had on my DR today.
May be a few times you'll wish you had more bite but it shouldn't be a show stopper.
We only had to push him once or twice on the route scouting run and your bike is lighter.
I had a shinko on the back of the DR on the scouting run and managed ok but since i already have half worn more agressive tyres on my other rims I'll use them.
The route is sharp so may well cut up ya tires a bit so almost a pity to buy a new set as they will be looking quite used by the end of the weekend.
Shiny new bash plates will be well worn in by then too.

Oi ya tell tale. I's only got stuck cause I was helping others and stopped in stupid placesI support the comment that rocks cutting up and puncturing tyres is far more likely to be an issue that getting stuck. A E07 rear (or similar) is what I'll be using and would recommended as a rear tyre and whatever floats ya boat for the front.
