15/44 then i dont have to shorten the chain and can go back to the off road 14/47 gearing if i want to.
Here for a good time, not necessarily a long time

I had an off road only kickstart model brand new in 2000. Have fond memories of hat bike as it's the only bike I won a motorcross race on at Ardmore

I ran a 41 tooth rear, and had the option of 13, 14, and 15 front. Same deal really.

It's funny how all DRZ talk reverts to gearing. I wonder why? Bloody gearbox.

SImilar thread recently had several people suggest a DRZ400SM, with the wheels changed to 18/21. Thinking was that the forks were significantly better.

Duno what the engine state is or how much extra mass they carry...

From what I`ve heard the S or E forks are better for off road use as that`s what those bikes are aimed more towards.

The S and SM are basically the same bike engine wise, not as good as an E with the FCR carb, cams and pipe. Standard version S and SM`s are underpowered IMO.

Ok here's a question to all those who have owned either 350 or 400. Which would you have prefered - the 6th gear of the 350 or leccy start ofthe 400.

At the mo I'm leaningtowards the leccy start due to river crossings, stalling in tight places - ah fck it I'm not gonna be doing big long miles on it I've answered my own question - as you were...

Ride both and make up your own mind.. You should try my 350 though, it's got a bit more grunt than MrsJatz one.
I like the air cooled, less to break, simplicity of the 350

    And then try a WR
