I'm coming off the Interislander at 11:35am Monday morning on my way to the DB1K.

If anyone's interested in joining me I'll be going through the Molesworth and Rainbow before heading up towards Motueka and banging on various ADV's doors trying to grease a bed for the night

Gear storage

Last year the Gladstone Pub stored gear for riders, regardless of wether you stayed there the Sunday night or not. I'm sure they would do this again.
Thanks Ryan

I found the Earnslaw details and rang real journeys, they reckoned I didn't need to book but to ring the day before to check the tides are right.

Since when do lakes have tides???
I've taken bike on Earnslaw b4, there is only limited space and I believe can only take 2 or 3 bikes at a time

With the lake being high at least it will be easy getting the bikes on & off.

Thumbs up top job Ryan and Co

thanks for once again organising the only "proper" routesheet ride this side of the tasman
What Topo said above Ryan - certainly the last two Dusty Butt's i've been to are stand out affairs for me - really appreciate all the effort you and those who help you have put in to make this possible - looking forward to this years with enthusiasm and some trepidation about the challenge section out of Kurow - hence the Bimmer will be staying at home - the little DR being weapon of choice for this stuff - Ciao Aslan

Incidentally, will be traveling from Picton to Fairlie direct on Friday (off of first Straitsman sailing arriving Picton around 6am and returning Monday on the 7pm out of Picton to Wellington. Welcome any company.

Made a short off road route and took thepom for a equipment shakedown and GPS test today.
The red arrow pointer on the Map60csx GPS wasn't so helpful as it is on my Map62s..

It seemed to point completely the wrong way at times.
I'm kinda thinking he might almost be better using something else in that Data Field on the mappage display
The Map60csx compass page was a bit better, thing that got me was at one time the compass and pointer were pointing opposite directions on the 60csx. We were practically stopped on a via point though so maybe the compass was ahead of the pointer if that's even possible?

Anyway think it was a good learning trip for thepom as there is definately a nack to navigating by these toys.
To those that say why or whats the point, I came up with my answer today, it's like i get to do two hobbies at once. Ride and play with a mini computer thingy. yay

Finally put a camera mount on my Shoei so was testing that as well... stupid cameras.

If it's anything like my Colorado the pointer actually points in the direction you are facing, it's independant of the route and route compass. My pointer is also slowish to update when you change direction rapidly

Nope, on the 62s when i turn the pointer updates so it always points to the next via point or waypoint at what ever angle or bearing it me be.
When it's pointing straight up the screen the next via/waypoint is straight in front of me.
The compass on the 62s works in 3 dimensions as opposed to the Map60csx only works properly when the unit is held level (just found this out recently).
When I calibrate my compass I have to turn it on the horizontal, then barrel roll it, then flip it end over end.

It did almost seem like we had not gone close enough to the via point for it to register and move on to the next where as mine had done that.

Do you have it configured to always point North? i.e the map...
This may affect your pointer?

Thanks for suggesting that.

Yes, that would/will affect your pointer as the map is always changing to annotate you North...
If your scale is so that you can see the next waypoint, it has no real relevence anyway. You can see the direction to head by seeing the flag?
