quite the opposite. I've been in this country for just over 4 years and have seen the usual racial shit... so as is my bent, i discuss it with the Maori i meet (all 4 of them) and it would seem that their definition of "ours" goes beyond Maori alone and that land goes beyond the borders of NZ... something I expected from what I know (which isn't a lot) of their "true" culture...

I didn't ask about the claims side of things, but will if I meet some of the people I spoke with next week...

I'm saying that Maori references to our, included me (white european)... and that land included the surface of the globe. I'll never know if the Harawiras feel this way without asking them

(that would explain the white mother fucker comments from a while back, for me anyway)... just saying that based on a very few conversations I have had with the very few Maori I have met, and having stared them in the eye when having the discussion, that I see more than Maori being historic land grabbing bludgers.

I dont see Maori as being historic land grabbing bludgers. I think most Maori are a useful part of our society. And some claims are fair enough.

Absolutely (apart from too far). I'll hopefully find out about the claims thing... but I have a feeling I know what the answer will be

... probably something along the lines of "protecting" the "land" from the economic world and its white (could be any colour) mother fuckers. So using my (even if incorrect) definitions for "our" and "land", I read something completely different into Wikitana Popata's message...

I read "our rangatahi" to include my white skinned blonde haired daughters.

I may well be wrong and he may well have just been speaking for and about Maori, but like I said, i'll never know until I get to look into his eyes, over a candle lit dinner perhaps, and ask.
