Death?? As in singular?? You're kidding. That tracks a killer. Modern machineries performance is way past the design limits of the track. It hasn't been kept up to date. There's been many deaths over the years and even more permanent injuries.

ok this sucks. HD is too expensive, puke is apparently too dangerous... no other tracks i can ride to from auckland easily and ride back after.

shit what do i do? downgrade bike? Is a cbr250rr or possibly an nc30 a lot more safe for going hard around pukie?
as far as i can tell, the only really dangerous spot i see is the mountain, shit it would be easy to lose the rear end over there on a 600 at 170kph. 90kph castrol corner onto the main straight seems fine and so do the other corners.

Maybe just use a bike that can be taken full throttle around the mountain?

try and see if i can beat vtecs cbr250rr 1.15 lap record? i need to push something hard.

Go do a ride day, or even just a single session (you can do this by arrangement I have read). You'll see it is worth every penny (Even after you factor in Tire wear, petrol, and new undies :P)

This thread isn't really the place but there are actual track days at puke too (not just the open days).

Can bikes enter these for $135? It doesn't say. 200 is just too much for me.

If not i think ill just go pukey but not take it too hard over the mountain aye

Thats a car day you're looking at there mate. Overalls, gloves recommended etc....

If you live round Auckland going to Taupo will cost you more. The ride days charge $184 if you book on line and its a properly organised day with instructors on hand..... it sounds like you could do with some coaching so don't short change yourself ... At Puke you get what you pay for.... not much really.

Are spectators allowed? Rode up there today but didn't really want to ride under the track to the infield uninvited!

Would have been cool to watch and take some photos.

Bugger should have rode on in. Ah well had a good blast down the 22 instead.

Looks like there won't be another mid week one for awhile.

Why is it cheaper for cars than bikes, surely you can get bigger groups on the track with bikes and alot more potential damage if a car crashes?

    Higher Attendance
    Idemnity Insurance Costs
    Subsidised/Sponsored

    Probablilities........
It's run by the track themselves, no track hireage fees.

I thought the track days were run by HD also. No?
Anybody else got any good reasons?
I was planning on taking the wife to the track day on the 19th but now i feel like im being..... overcharged.
Im sure there are legitimate reasons, Im just interested in hearing them.

Over charged?? You get very good value for money at HD Ride Days. As I've said, most people don't complete their full number of sessions cos they've got their moneys worth already. Between 4:00-5:00 it's not uncommon to have 2 bikes on the track because everyone else has headed home.

You get what you pay for. Puke charges $90.00 for an open day where CBR250's and even FX150's get thrown in with full monty Superbikes and Supersport racebikes. There's no ambulance (something I've personally found extremely "inconvenient" once) and you have to go out between the car sessions. If you're lucky there aren't any drifters there to cover turn 1/2 with grass and dirt.

Open Days are run by track management. But they don't do any Open Days for bikes at Hampton Downs. The only public ride days are run by Hampton Downs Ride Days as stipulated by HD Track Management.

HD Ride Days are among the safest I've attended (a big plus for me having broken bones at an Open Day). It's also professionally run and the emphasis is on making sure people get what they pay for.
