Does anyone know if you can purchase coloured wiring ie Green/black in smallish lengths (or longer ones I guess)? Planning to tidy up wiring, do some minor cosmetic tidy ups (for $0 invested), and then take to Vin Orr for final tune (the cosmetics/wiring is planned so it doesn't look like he'd be wasting his time [/QUOTE]

Nip down to the excellent rubish/recycling shop you have in Nelson.Might even get a near whole bike for a couple of bucks.

Got a good sheepskin seatcover for a $ when I was there.

The GS attracted attention wherever I stopped, incl some kids who asked if it had been in the war. It even got to see the sun set on Mt Cook on Thurs night, which would have been way more romantic with the previous German I had given a lift...

This bird hitched a ride from Inungahua to Reefton. I knew I'd (regretfully) hit it but assumed it had gone under my wheels. Carefully extracted it & was last seen running towards the Reefton Lotto shop.

Was working at the start of the Glenroy Run Sat morning & owner has agreed to an adv ride up the Valley. He owes me a favour & would follow as support vehicle if required. Trail bikes go up there a lot so would suit light adv bikes, but best before end of March while crossings are low. 5 hour round trip ex Murchison in 4WD (probably quicker on bikes) with option of over-nighting in hut. Anyone interested?

The wars, yes. The war, no.

Somewhere new. Count me in if "you get the dates right". Was wondering about that as an alternative to Maruia Saddle for the northern DB. I might even have an "appropriate" bike soon

So what about fat bikes? Can't they playor is it too steep etc?

BTW Schmidts back to its' usual state

Once again thanks for bringing it up.

For those interested I found the gearbox had lost 200mlsof it's 800ml oil. That's not so bad but the vibration that was starting up was worrying.

Anyway the ride maybe quite cool. Where is Glenroy?

I think the issue is more "deepness" than steepness. How high is ya snorkel? Real mountain sand flies too.
You pass the Glenroy turn off between Maruia Saddle & Six Mile.

Count us in definitely, depending on dates. We've been in a couple of times in the 4wd and would like to do it on bikes.
Some of the river crossings are a bit bouldery, and some bits of track too. Probly be in for a bit of a camp out too.

    Other options in the area

Went so far up that valley a few years ago till I got stuck in a bog & also went down the Maitakaitaki to Tutaki sth/Mole rd wich comes out near Breaburne track.
Heading up the valley past Six mile, there is a short road that goes to the left.(Can,t find the name)
Thats where the track starts, but you have to cross private property & cross the Maitakaitaki to get out.

Is that the road just past horse terrace bridge gorge thingy ?
AFAIK permission from the land holder can be hard to get, but I could be proved wrong. Also the Matakitaki is not the easiest river to get accross, but I'd give it a go

Plug (for those of you who remember him) and I had a look at crossing the Maitakaitaki just after new years back in 07. Way to deep and bouldery. Found another track along the side but don't think we went to it's end. Apparently there is a bridge near Matakitaki Station and the topo maps show the possibility of tracks along the true right i.e. if we could link it all up then can use the bridge to cross. Again would be another good addition to the northern DB1k if we can make it work. Farmer was out bailing hay and was more than happy for us to have a look around.

    Cheers R

MMMMMM!!!!!! -----Forgotten JUST where the road is now.
But the river crossing was an adrenalin pumper alright. Two of us (f650 & a R80 basic.) We helped each other in the swift current(went across on a big angle) And ,as Ryan said ,big boulders. Adding to that ,darkness was falling.

Went for a nice ride today - To the gate at Rainbow, called into DOC & found out the Porika is still closed after trees down & the slip. I will call Transpower in the next few days & find out if they are gonna rpair it. I went to Rotoroa & started going up from that side but quite big bouldery rocks at the bottom so turned around.

Did the Braeburn - freshly gravelled so a bit marbly.

Wasn't exactly hot up at the Lakes but nice & warm coming home. I saw a bunch of guys heading to the Rainbow from St Arnuad - all different bikes but not like hire bikes.
