I work for Dept of Internal Affairs in Procurement. I may have a little bit more insight about the whole 'debacle' than you....

The information appears to be correct when 200k is bandied around as a retail price. If not believing the media, should I spend half a day phoning up (and being fobbed off onto other) government departments, only then getting 1/2 the truth?

Would you care to educate us on "the true story" perhaps?

I am not stupid enough to 'educate' people on the issue as that can only lead to one thing; losing my job.

However I would state that the one of the functions of Procurement is to go to market to create a competitive bid for a product or service. If procurement, or more accurately the tender process didn't exist then then there would be minimal to no competition and Govt would always just pay 'market rates'......

OK, you have proved my point regarding phoning up government departments to get information. The media is obviously the most convenient portal for TPTB to release any information to the public. An emergency press-conference "after the fact" being the other.

Quite true. Not that the best bid is always taken though.

While I do get what you are trying to pint out but.... I have to sign a COI declaration, our Communications Team are the only ones authorised to release comms and fair enough too. I personally would hate to speak on behalf of the Govt....

Yup, I know where you are coming from on that point. I have signed the Official Secrets Act on at least three occasions.

What has insurance and broken wheels got to do with government? Oh...um...er....I'll shut up now.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
